also known as Carsten Nicolai. he worked with many
musicians - Ryoji Ikeda, Ryuchi Sakamoto ( known from
soundtrack to Little Buddha ), Mika Vainio, etc. his musi is
something between glitchy cilcks and fennesz field sounds.
but its more minimal - Alva creeates whole patterns with
these clicks, like there would be no other sound.
this is how computer language could sound.
i recommend it, if anyone is interested - look
here
there are also some mp3's from different projects of Alva to
listen.

really really great musician, and great music.

Agreed. The releases I like best are Transrapid, and the EP
he did with Opiate. Vrioon is also very good. How gltchy
ambient should sound like

Raster Noton has an impressing number of releases BTW. They
started up in 1999 or something?

newest collab between Alva and Opiate :
Opto- 2nd with some mp3's to listen.

some history : Cartsen found an old MC with someone tryin to
play on giutar recorded. he took the MC, remastered the
sound from it to digital version, and asked Opiate if he can
do something with it. they started to cut the sound fom the
tape, they added some electronic clicks - and we have an
album. plus - one of the tracks is original sound of MC with
someone playin on guitar and singing, more than 10 minutes
long. plus, the tape was originaly recorded in some woods,
so besides electronics, you can hear sliced forrest sounds,
birds, wind. cool

oh no, they started yet in the early 90's - you can find all
projects of Carsten listed on hisweb site- check the link i
gave in my first post.
actually, some of these projects are amazing. its more than
just a music.

exactly, minimal artwork is so clear and pure.... i love
these artworks, white covers, minimalistic geometry, weird
track names.
the same with other artists - ryoji ikeda for instance - guy
ig also awesome, even more minimal that Alva Noto. i did a
thread about him also.

sadly, not too much ppl are interested in this music, maybe
its too experimental ?

i don't think it's experimental really...it's just seems
that people here don't like minimalistc stuff that much.
well, it's their loss.

i remember one track by Ryoji Ikeda, where you could hear
only one sinusoid wave, but the wave was bumpin on the walls
of the room , so in different places of the room you could
hear different parts of these waves. excellent track. and a
great idea.

"nibo. con.duct. spc.trm
minimal digital sounds are transformed into images which are
generated from the soundwaves. "

Hmmm. Is this the same deal as in Track2 on Windowlicker

i didn't hear nobody do such stripped down electronic
music.
lotsa ppl think it's easy to so such genre, but i don't agree
with that.

he's really gone to the essence and i respect his work.

i think that collab "alva noto + ryuchi sakamoto" is the
best start- you will hear the best from alva, but its not so
harsh like the next ones.
yeah, with this you will start in a subtle way

or, if you wanna be rought at start - check his solo LP's,
or check Ryoji Ikeda already - hes the biggest minimalist.

Very nice stuff. I just got Transform - reminds me of some
of the Pan Sonic and Radian I've been listening to lately. I
think there's more going on in Alva Noto's brand of
minimalism than there is in, say, Frank Bretschneider's.
Which is to say, this stuff holds my attention better.
