"tensegritoy" is somewhat interesting. It uses tensegrity which is balanced tension or something I don't fully understand. There was this other really cool puzzling toy which I'm pretty sure was chinese. There were about 6 flatish wood squares lined up in a row and connected in a simply but odd way with bands... in a way where you hold the topmost square with the rest dangling and slowly change that one square from vertical to horizontal which eventually releases a weird chain reaction where they alternate click clack, back and forth overturning yet remaining connected to the end. It's hard to describe. |

Yeah I saw those! They have the annoying label as 'most intelligent/difficult construction toy ever', but actually seem interesting. The crap I got has many more possibilities however.. the tensegritass would get older much sooner I think yeah those squares just have the bands alternate in front and behind each square, that way when facing they can alternate connection point.. the bands are elastic which allows for this flexing.. |

I'll check out zome. Have you seen this, ha ha, this is dumb but weird: Oh yeah, do you remember something called (I believe) "marble works"? You built a big obstacle course for marbles. It was cool. Another is "airzooka" which got popular through thinkgeek.com and slashdot. It's sort of cool I guess. Slinkeys... chinese yo yo's... chinese handcuffs. |

oh holy shit bookmarked that! Too bad it no doubt deteriorates like hell =( I remember marble works, but not well enough to imagine the possible structures.. I never had a good slinky so they always pissed me off |

yes. There are other sets with more angles which consist of metal balls and magnet-tipped rods, but the joints on those aren't as strong as with zome, which is why I prefer it. |

I bought a limited set of spare parts (or overstock) from their website for $10 to get a taste for them, and am very pleased; you may want to do the same. When I get a chance I'll get all the remaining connectors and build something nasty. |
