just a stupid question: why do we always try to compete, to be the best in everything?
even in leisures, when you don't really win anything... people play video games where you have to beat the other to death virtually, practice sports where you have to defeat the other, etc...
is this because of some fighting instinct we would have inherited from hard times in the past..? or something else?

I think competition is a way to get excitement in the everyday, not so exciting always, life.
And competing is exciting, there's a thrill involved. Plus you feel good if you win. But it all depends on what kind of competition of course...

The whole 'you feel good if you win' that's what makes some people addicted to gambling I think (cause they don't care about the money, but the actual thrill of the game).
