is it true there is a difference in the quality of the
hardware between xbox and ps2 and gamecube? I've heard
stories the ps2 has a shorter life-time, the xbox causes a
lot of heat and the gamecube is the best only comparing the
hardware.

opinions?

ps2 will last a long time if you don't throw it around or
step on it. same with xbox. none of the consoles develop
much heat... they all have very strong cooling-systems. The
gamecube is NOT best if you count JUST the hardware... for
that the Xbox is on top. However, the xbox doesn't have as
many gadgets as the ps2 (usb + expansion bay and stuff like
that...).

PS2's die a lot. PS1's did in the beginning I remember. No
idea about X-Boxes and Gamecubes, but I've heard both PS2
and XBox die if you use them to play DVD's a lot.

Launch Xbox's (like mine) came with a faulty disc drive...
and most of them have fucked up by now. I know mine has. I
get ''dirty disc errors'' all the time... but my discs are
perfectly fine. I've learned to cope with it, and save
whnever possible. I could DDE at any second. Newer Xboxs are
perfectly fine.

I've had my PS2 since the start, and I watch ALL my DVDs on
there... I've never had a problem. It's never froze, never
got a DDE on it. But that's just my experience. Gamecube is
nice and durable as well.

They'll all last forever unless you stand on them to reach
high places, play catch with them, spill chocolate milk all
over them (I did that to my Gamecube, but the only thing
that went wrong was a sticky open button), or drop them
while carrying them around in a grocery bag (I did that to
my PS2). I game a LOT and the only one that's had problems
is my Xbox, and that's only because it's one of the horrible
launch models (and I bought it used).

Drop all three from a seventh-story flat, and you will have
a definitive answer.

the ps2's laser eye isn't built to last. supposedly after
time the dvd portion just doesn't work anymore.

It's not like they always die for sure, the majority
probably work for a long time. But on the subject of sony
disc products, I've had shit luck with the past 3 (discman,
boombox, and cd burner) that all sucked ass, on top of what
I've heard of PS2 and original PlayStations, i don't buy
them anymore.

i like the old playstation commercials where they toss an
N64 in the air and someone shoots it with a shotgun.

Me and my friend both have PS2's. His is a first generation
and its fucked up considerably. Mine is newer and it works
fine. I've had more problems with the PS2 controllers than
the actual PS2 itself.

i'm convinced the bonfire i made out of my sega dreamcast,
saturn and genesis was more engaging than actually playing
any of those systems.

Tell me about it. My Dreamcast requires a heavy object to
keep the disc lid from popping up... and that happened after
just a month of use. I can't remember ever abusing it, or
letting other people touch it at all.

Dreamcast was OK. Sega fans are rabid about it, but I think
they overestimate their little white box. Precious few AAA
games on that system. But it did spawn the best line of
hockey games out right now...

I don't see how anybody could diss the Genesis. Crazytalk
right there. Saturn was an epic failure, but I'm still
planning to buy Shining Force 3 someday.

do you find the lip-synching goes out over the space of a
dvd with your ps2? mine does like crazy... like a 1-second
lag by the end of the movie >_<
