those accents express which sylab has the strengh in the word for example (in english word) citizen... you say it in a way that the first sylab is the strong one: CItizen other word: perhaps... the strengh here is in the last one, at least thats how you say it: perHAPS WELL, I hope oyu get it. so in spain, we put an accent in the sylabs with strenth in the word (but be careful, not always, there are certain rules for that) spanish examples: avión why ´ in the "o"? cos thats how we pronounce the word: aVION (and not: Avion) its "plane" by the way sofá cos we say: soFA not like english who would say: SOfa |
