fuck! my soundcard has been working fine until recently..
for some reason, I can't record into Acid anymore, which
means I can't playback the stuff I've already made so every
recording becomes off-beat... I record in Soundforge, which
has exactly the same settings as Acid when it comes to
soundcard, but soundforge doesn't playback other things, and
the errormessage I get when trying to record in Acid is
"Device in use." Have anyone encountered this problem
before?

Close all other soundcard-using applications?

I tried to record in Acid 3.0 once or twice, and at first
acid seized to operate, passed away without saving the
session, second time it was better - it recorded everything
almost okay. I don't remember the reason but I use CoolEdit
to record something. If I need rhythm from acid, I just loop
some region in it and record in CE.

I did put in a network-card, but that has been taken out
again, and it worked fine right after...

What about installing any new software?

I am guessing you have tried the obvious things like,
restart the pc, reinstall the sound card drivers, check for
conflics in the device manager.

Also you should turn your pc off and make sure the Sound
card is properly inserted (if it is a PCI card) , you may
have knocked it when you put the network card in.

If it is not a software problem then I can't be much help
sorry.

yeah, I've tried most of those things and more.. it didn't
just happen now.. it started a few days ago, so I've had my
time to check and experiment, but still no luck...

ok, good luck sorting it out then, sounds like maybe it was
just its time to go :'( I'm sure it has gone to a better
place though.

however, I'm going to move on to using almost nothing but
hardware now.. I'm getting a zoom portastudio as soon as I
can save up the money for it!
