..fucking SUCK. My girlfriend today made a visit to the doctors to enquire about going on the pill. Unluckily, the doctor she was sent to see was a 60 something female Roman Catholic. Now as you probably know Catholics, bless 'em, are dead against contraception, so you can see how a problem may arise here. My girlfriend (lurker on this board SValx) tells me that whereas a friend of hers made the same appointment and spent a mere 15 minutes with the doctor, she was subjected to 40 minutes of lies and pointless tests, all because of this woman's frankly ridiculous beliefs. Among the bombshells dropped, she warned my girlfriend the of 'dangers' of going on the pill, such as putting on weight and becoming spotty or get thrombosis. Oh no! She kindly forgot to mention that there are several (more than '3') safer pills to be taken, without such side-effects. She also seemed to forget about the whole idea of 'confidentiality', asking about what her parents thought and even having the cheek to ask if we were planning on getting married, despite my girlfriend explaining that this is a very serious relationship several times. Me and my girlfriend felt similarly appalled with the whole thing, and she has decided to get a second opinion. But my point is... Why are people so clearly fucking stupid and prejudiced hired for such jobs? It's disgusting. |

hmm, did she actually ask her parents or just enquire about what her parents thought? If it was the former then a complaint should be made to the BMA. Also, I'm not being funny but the fact she spent so long discussing the issue is what we need more doctors to do. You question the professionalism of someone infinitely more qualified than you simply based on heresay from someone talking about another doctor who for all you know may have acted negligently. |

tetracycline(sp?) is a relatively safe birth control pill. as long as you don't smoke, or stay on it for a very prolonged time i think it's supposed to be ok. my ex was on it for almost two years, and the only side effect was that her boobs gained a full cup size for the first couple of months. but, they returned to normal after a couple of months, and she didn't gain weight otherwise. oh great, now you've made me start missing her. i'm gonna go smash my face in with a cinderblock again. |

i believe the catholic religion as a whole frowns on birth control because they think it can encourage sex outside of marriage... so, i wouldn't trust a catholic doctor's advice on the subject at all. i could be completely wrong though. |

Try to find a proper STD clinic...go in there and discuss it with a doc from there. They are much better. My local one helped me out when at the age of 16 my bollocks swelled to the size of watermelons. |

resolve doesn't need to be tested by a doctor, what bullshit. it is true that the doctor should inform the patient about possible dangers of taking such a drug, but that's where it ends. it sure as hell should not take up 40 (!) minutes. |

I should know by now.. :) I do wonder what those test where too and if they involved all kinds of chrome instruments and lots and lots and lots of rubber gloves! high definition photographs and explantory diagrams will not suffice, some form of film of the event with a crisply clear soundtrack would bring us closer to being slightly sufficient. |

Lee, it'd be great if she was talking to me properly about it but all she was doing was telling me about how she was R.C. and that she wouldn't give me any option to have a different type of pill because it was against her religion. I appreciate the fact she may not agree with how it works but I don't see that it is her place to refuse me something which would be safer and better suited to me. She was saying that I shouldn't go on the pill and I should talk to parents more about it yet I am above the legal age to have sex and so she should help me. She told me that she thought I'd come running to her if the pill didn't work (which it would) and ask for an abortion, which she thinks is disgusting. She was no help at all, instead she tried to intimidate me. She was stumbling over her words and giving me biased advice and was terrible at her job. I know what she was saying was bullshit because I've read up about it a lot and wanted to know all about it before I went to the doctors. I agree she should question my choice but I was talking to her about it and she knew that I was well informed about it. It wasn't just hear say. I've spoken to a lot of my friends, my parents and birothers girlfriends about it and all of them told me it was a simple appointment. The doctor would ask a few questions about family history and general health, it'd take approximately 15 minutes and that was it. I'm going to go to an STD clinic-thanks for the advice. godataloss, I'm not a whore. I've only ever slept with Max and I'm old enough to be having sex. Think it's better that I'm being careful and planning stuff instead of ending up getting pregnant and being a 17year old mother. |
