its basically this anime i recently heard of, 13 episodes
and 4 dvds, each around 40$. well i was at some import anime
store today and saw a complete collection of it for only 35$
!
so i just had to get it. the only drawback is that the
korean english translation isnt the best, some words
lookliketheyaretogether, and sumtimes its splet like thsi.
its pretty funny actuallly. well worth it tho

anyone seen it?

LAZY_TITLE

this looks promising. it says it's by the creator of serial
experiments: lain. i have that on dvd - it's great. have
you watched the whole series yet? does anything surreal
happen? :)

i loved lain, so it led me to this, ive only seen three
episodes as of yet, a bit slow but engaging none the less

just got to episode 6. this is really bad, worse than i
thought. the subtitles seem to get worse and worse, and
crucial storyline parts are jumbled mispelled nonsensical
heaps of words because obviously these koreans are quite
drunk on sake at this point.

still, good anime, good animation, good music, and a bit
slow which isnt necessarily a bad thing. well i got what i
paid for, putting up with these subs can be justified by
saving so much money.

serial experiment lain doesn't even make sense. then again,
no anime does.

I agree, it does make sense

I'm interested in haibane renmei simply because it's the
same artist as lain, and no other reason, I still have yet
to find any,.. maybe at the next lan I go to >:)

on episode 10 now, it seems to be taking the same approach
as lain (and most anime for that matter), self identity.
although its not themed in the age of information like lain
was, its more spiritual based. and chances are you wont look
at a crow the same way again after seeing this anime.

stupid 2nd dvd doesnt work on my dvd player, so im gonna
test it on the computer. once again i got what i paid for.

Is it badly drawn, does it have schoolgirls in it, does it
fetishise an entire race of people, is it wank?

it is wank! the second dvd is defective, and i bought it
from this anime store where the old bitch will just shake
her liver spotted head at me when i try and return it !

I've got easy access to this entire series, ( a mate down
the road has it) but I've yet to see it, I am a little to
lazy to bother dragging my computer down the road as of late

wow, almost a year. i finally watched the whole thing.

the opening dream sequence of the first episode was really
exciting. then it was boring for a bunch of episodes while
she was looking for a job. but once it got to the episode
with the well and the crow, it got really good and sitting
through the slower stuff paid off. i really enjoyed the
ending. i liked it by the last episode.

this series made me feel incredibly depressed. but that's
better than feeling nothing. it wasn't the best anime
series i've seen, but it was worth watching and i'm glad i
did.

my thanks, gwely mernans, for the recommendation! it was a
good choice.

it's drawn well as far as these things go and it totally
avoided any hint of sexuality or romance.

I managed to see the rest too. As a whole its a pretty
symbolic and depressing anime, but theres some happiness in
there aswell. The real story behind it is very very sad
however.

spoiler discussion:
i got the impression by the end that they were actually in
the christian purgatory rather than in a fantasy world. and
the pre-birth "dreams" were actually related to their
deaths. what did you make of that world where the story
took place?

I was never sure what I gathered from the whole city and the
meaning behind it, although it did become evident that this
was in fact a purgatory for children who died. The children
with black wings were people who committed suicide I think.
