oh, she is so annoying. she watches my tv all day so i never get a chance to watch a movie or something...she makes me do all the bullshit like put in the air conditioner...the first 3 months of living with her and paying equal rent she grabbed the room that was about 2.5 times the size of my pitiful closet. don't worry though, that situation was rectified by my moving into the living room and putting up curtains! she never takes out the trash, but if i let my dishes sit in the sink for like 2 days, i get a little note that says "please do the dishes." plus she wanted me to get my boyfriend to pay a third of rent for spending the night, which somehow i averted (am i wrong in thinking that if someone is sharing my half of the apt, that he should be splitting my half of rent?).
and i sit here like a little bitch and take it because in real life i am (you all may have a hard time believing this) too nice and/or passive to ever start any kind of fuss. but i have less than a month to go and this hellish first year 'on my own' is over and i can get the fuck out of here. what was i thinking?
come on i bet you guys have some horror stories, too.

i tried to get her to let me sublet or something so we could just both go our separate ways back in december...but she wasn't down for it.. and rather than ditch out on my first lease (hey, don't wanna ruin my name quite yet), i stuck it out.

haha, i did do one thing that's kind of awful. when she went to japan earlier this year, i let my guinea pig run around in her room (he is a compulsive shitter). when she came back she was convinced we had mice.

i dont think getting revenge on yer housemate is wise. especially if you have 6 months left in each others company. my last housemates mood got worse and worse over a number of months and he never brought up his greivances until i decided to move away. myself on the other hand, i always mentioned all the little things immediately. admittedly im a bit of a clean-freak

i think if her room was really 2.5 times bigger than yours, she should have to pay a bigger share of the rent, but that's something you must work out beforehand. and she shouldn't have any say over who stays with you.
all things considered, you could have a much, much worse roommate.

oh, of course i should have worked that out before hand, but bear in mind that this is my first apartment and in my excitement i never thought to use a tape measure (won't make that mistake again).
anyhow, i would love to hear about other people's roommates from hell, too!

i did the whole best-friend-roommate thing. it's typically a disaster, but worked for us, for the most part, as we're very alike in habits etc. some horrific episodes, yeah (he was fond of picking up absolutely vile and filthy used furniture from the alleyway), but we got along for the most part. nonetheless, i gotta find a place for next year sometime in august, and i think i'm going to go for an anonymous roommate.

A female roommate that sucks. I wouldn't have thought that would have got much sympathy from lads...it sounds like a dream provided she wasn't too ugly.

My first flatmate was a horror, too.. She took me to court over an unpaid phone bill, which sucked cos she was the only one who used the phone and she refused to give me an itemised bill so I could settle my payment... In the end, my friends ran her out of town.

"(am i wrong in thinking that if someone is sharing my half of the apt, that he should be splitting my half of rent?). "
Yes, because I bet he doesn't just use your "half of the apartment". Does he use the living room, kitchen/bathroom?
It's unreasonable of her to expect him to pay rent if he's just there one or two nights a week say, but if he's there more than that, you can see her point. Somewhere I lived before a mate had his gf staying for over a week and it was a real pain- less chance of you getting to choose what's on tv, not being able to wander around in you boxers in the morning, having to wait longer to use the bathroom, etc.
My flatmate: Pays my council tax, Pays all the bills, Does all the housework (aside from my dishes and "manly" stuff like assembling furniture, going in the loft, moving heavy things, etc.),
Does her dishes etc. in a timely manner, Lets me have the upstairs landing for my wardrobe, book shelf, etc. (so I can keep my room just for audio gear),
Doesn't mind me playing music, ever, Doesn't mind me having mates over, Lets me know in advance when she'll have mates over, Has lived in the area all her life, so knows the good pubs, shops, garages, etc.
So I can't complain. I have had some really gash flatmates in the past. Not doing your dishes for a couple of meals is irritating, but when you come back from a week away (and when you left all plates etc. were clean) and have to do the dishes before you can start cooking because they have dirtied literally every plate, it drives me into a rage. Doing the dishes straight after cooking is easy, if you're careful, you can do about half of them whilst you're still cooking. If you leave it for days:
a) It's a massive job and b) It's so much harder- the food has dried on, etc.
I came to blows with 2 out of 3 flatmates in the house I was in during my second year at uni. Over silly things, but it's bad when you live in the same house as you can't really get away from the other person.

i've lived with i guess 15 or 20 different roomates. out of those i only didn't like living with two.
one was completely insane. compulsive lyar, disgusting alcoholic, and constantly thought he was having a heart attack. he'd go to the emergency room 2 or three times a week. he would pull out a lighter and start burning the coffee table that i built.. then when i'd look over at him and tell him not to burn my table.. he'd then tell me with a straight face that he wasn't burning it!.. i mean, i was watching him do it, smoke was coming up, everything... nuts. he would pass out on his bed, with no sheets, on top of bicycle gears and books, with all of his clothes on, and a freshly opened beer, then when it spilled all over him he would wake up and yell at ME for pouring it on him.
the other roomate was just a slob... his dog would walk around the house on it's period dripping blood on the hardwood floors and licking it back up, his room smelled like piss, and he was really loud in the morning.

well i did word that a bit strangely. he really isn't sharing my "half" of the apartment. we hang out in my room (never the 'living room' unless she's asleep), he uses the bathroom, true, but not the kitchen. but i do have to point out that her boyfriend stays over just as frequently as mine (though mine keeps more of his stuff in my room i'll bet).
i really bet she has a list of things that i do that drive her nuts, too, though. like, for example, sometimes i forget to turn on the fan in the bathroom when i take a shower, so the room stays steamy extra long. well i'm sure there's something more awful than that that i've got no clue bothers her, but you get the idea. i'm just glad we don't pay utilities or have a phone line to argue about, because we both love to crank the a/c. i already feel like a cold hearted bitch when i have to remind her to pay for her half of the internet bill.
20 more days!
