Alcohol

Is alcohol cultural or natural?
What I mean is, did people invent alcohol, or was it already
part of human's habits?
E.g. some birds (and other creatures) get drunk or high on
certain plants/berries/etc and get frisky together.
And alcohol exists naturally...
so... what do you think? I mean nobody can possibly know,
but what do you think?

juniper berries contain alcohol naturally, if I remember
correctly from school..

it probably started naturally and then us having brains 'n
stuff we made a billion-dollar industry out of it, including
nasty diseases and hefty addictions!

aha... well many berries do when they ferment (am I
expressing myself correctly now?)
but I didn't know that about the juniper ones.

hah yeah, e.g. vodka isn't that natural... but one can get
certain wines that contain nothing (almost) but fruit, so
one can get "natural" alcohol.

I could very well be very wrong, you know.

with all the drink etc.

I think you're right, I actually think I remember hearing
something like that myself...
I know that's the case with other berries anyway, such as
rowanberry. Birds eat them, and then fly like alcoholic
pilots trying to manouver a plane.

Alcohol is my friend, and yours, I hope.

It started back in the medieval times when people needed to
purify water as it was too dirty to drink. They didn't think
of boiling it for some reason but some how they came up with
beer. After centuries of beer drinking and the gradual
growth of world population, alcohol has become ingrained in
us, so we're immune to the effects of alcohol to a certain
extent. Where as in more eastern countries they did not
drink beer all that time ago and thus get drunk faster or
react badly to alcahol. So I think alcahol is a bit of both,
a bit cultural and a bit natural.

gang of pals and prophets used to drink wine.

grapes. and water.

or something?

no... it already does (there is raw alcohol, in such wines
as I mentioned, and since it exists in nature)...

I was just thinking about the topic... cause without
alcohol, I wonder what the world would look like.
I'm not sure if alcohol does more good or more bad to
people, but I enjoy it.

I mean, alcohol is obviously not good for people's health.
But with today's society and everything, lots of people meet
in a drunken state, it helps people relax and so on.
It's fun.

actually, I'm not sure -how- bad it is, but drinking too
much of it - I know that isn't good.

I make more friends at parties when drunk, so it can't be a
bad thing.

i've had to punch out more drunk people at parties than any
other type of people, so it can't be a good thing...

are you a bouncer?

well i guess i go to different types of parties. This is one
of those things which is completely different for all
people. On one hand I hate alcahol for certain
family/past/personal reasons but on the other hand I enjoy
drinking alcahol and getting drunk. I have never go violent
or seen too many people get violent. I may express my
feelings more openly when 'under the influence' but have
never actually taken any action.

i'm not having a go at you Raz0rBlade_uk, just saying that
alcohol has been the cause of more viloence in my life, and
in the lives of many people I know, than anything else......
not to mention death, disease (take a look at an alcoholic
after 20 years on the bottle) and misery.... it just seems
to be taken really lightly by people... i was just trying to
balance things out...

well any kind of addiction turns me off.
Though using alcohol is nice, I think (perhaps cause I can
control it - I wouldn't like it as much if I'd have problems
with it).
I'm very close to what razorblade just said in his post.

i'm not talking about you as individuals, i'm talking about
the wider social effects of alcohol..... think about it's
impact across society... if anyone today wanted to market a
drug that had the effects that alcohol does they wouldn't be
able to... why is that?

I couldn't agree with you more, darkpromenade. Although I do
think that if alcohol is treated properly, i.e. Drinking in
excess then half the shitty stuff that happens, wouldn't
happen, or maybe all of it. Give 'man' and inch and he'll
take a mile.
