I use Buzz... like it a lot.
It's a bit like reason (really, it is).

reason 2.5
fl is a tracker, nothing more, well, with additional vst
plug-ins and some twatty knobs.
reason is much more freindly in use, look, and work.the
difference in prize shows that also. and position of
propellerheadz. and everything else.

I also like FL Studio. Cubase would be better for multitrack
recording of a real live band though. Or Nuendo or
Protools.

I'm looking forward to trying the new Ableton Live - they've
finally added the ability to host instruments and record
midi. It's still in beta testing.

Reason seems too limited. Hate the sequencer, hate that you
can't use your own plugins.

FL is a tracker???
I didn't know that.
Buzz is a tracker though.

couldnt disagree with you more there...

i use both... well use too... fucked reason off quite a
while ago because of its unfriendly interface... but it is a
matter of comfort with those things... if your gonna get a
bit more serious you gotta move on to the obvious anyway
(logic, pro tools) to save from losing seeeerious top end.

Reason can be quite versatile, its all about abusing the
interface. I use it most as well as wavelab5 and recycle.
Recently i'm getting into Audacity, simple little sequencer
that has all the lovely cut paste and record options that
reason don't. My all time fav is SoundEdit II back when i
used a powermac. If anyone can point me to a link for this
little ditty again i will be eternally grateful and buy you
icecream.

it's an neverending question...

maybe it's reason,maybe it's FL (not) or even steinberg's
nuendo / cubase.

... nuendo and reason!!!

i still say that fl is a tracker, lets say its kinda
proffesional tracker.
cubase is a sequencer, its purpose is to clear up and mesh
the sound, not creating whole songs.
ive had logic 5 for some time, and to be honest i used it
only once - to see how it looks, then i de-installed it.

its all imo thingy, it depends on many factirs, but still,
reason is the best.

FL has the most efficient interface for getting down and
dirty with sequencing.

I've been experimenting with sonar 3, fl studio and a
combination of external hardware.

FL Studio = gives you some sick oppertuneties to make some
speed'ish music, but the sound is a bit harder to get.

Reason = Good sound on almost anything, but the
knowledge-base is a little bigger. You are limited on the
overview IMO

That's why ya gotta rewire the fruity to a proper audio
sequencer.

I only use wavelab, goldwave, occasionally audacity and
sometimes granulab. Audacity is shit, granulab is horribly
unstable, but the other two are decent.

Each program has its advantages but I'd say I use
Reason+Recycle the most.
I think Max/MSP has been the most powerfull but my demo
trial period has run out and I can't afford to buy full
package.
Reaktor is a treat as well.

Yes definetly! But Reaktor is not good programmed. This app
needs a lot of CPU power to run well.

Not true at all. You might get that impression from some of
the very big flashy synths that ship with it, like green
matrix. But there's plenty of great synths in the user
library that sound amazing and don't hog the CPU. And you
can cut down any instrument until it does only what you need
it to.

You also need to know how to optimize your instruments, just
like any other programming environment - know where to put
what module and why, and when you can make some modules
monophonic in a polyphonic instrument, etc.

Overall I find it much more efficient and versatile than
other VST instruments that have come out lately like the
Arturia emulations, or Sytrus. Sure those sound great but
they eat shitloads of cpu.

One of the great things about Reaktor is that you get the
amazing velocity-mapped sampler modules that are the basis
of Kontakt - except you decide how you want your sampler to
behave - maybe delay and slow the sample and feed it back
into itself as frequency modulation, then add a stepped lfo
to the FM amount, and add a 5 or 7 step filter cutoff gate
so you get polyrhythmic effects in a 4/4 track... crazy
shit.

If you have a pirated version and you can't get into the
user library to download some of the more exotic ensembles
then you have no idea what this sick little puppy is capable
of.

I got JWH's Studio 4.2 sequencers so now I can do lots of
stuff, even complete tracks, in just Reaktor. It's a whole
different way of working, almost like using a hardware
sequencer. Makes you approach music differently.
