MIDI Sync In Cubase SX

I've returned from my basement to ask for help with a
problem I'm having getting set up down there. Cubase SX
heads, please lend me your ears.

I have a Korg Electribe ER-1 (An analog drum machine) that
is connected to my computer through midi via a Firewire
410.

I have it set up in Cubase SX to act as a master in its
relationship with the ER-1, and I can trigger the ER-1 to
play simply by pressing the play button in Cubase. This is
all well and good, but the actual playback of the ER-1 is
very... well fucked up. It plays slightly out of sync. The
first beats will mostly kick on time but all the drums in
between are off, and are a general mess. What and how should
I tweak SX and the ER-1 to play nice together? (read; in
sync)

If anyone can help me, I will give them a lavish sandwich.

Oh and yeah I guess you guys who said I'd be back in less
than 4 days are right, but you knew that anyway.

After I can resolve this, I'll be sinking back down into my
basement. And emerge later with some junk to share with
'yis.

I use Cubase SX, but not to control external
devices............are you transmitting midi notes that
could be fucking with the ER-1? Thats all i can think
of................sure you've thought of it............good
luck.....

I'm not sending notes to it from cubase. Just syncing the
midi clocks between the software and the er1.

I've been using just an empty project with an audio channel
to record the audio input from the unit, not the midi.

I just set up the sync under the transport menu, I believe
it is called sync setup or sync options.

Very perplexing... I've been scouring the net for info, but
have come up empty handed.

So did you set the electribe as a slave? I don't have an
electribe but there must be an option for that somewhere
in/on the unit.

Yup. I set the clock source on the ER1 to external. That
usually syncs it up fine with other midi devices. Cubase
just doesnt seem to work with it well. I've scoured the
manuals but have come up empty-handed

I've also noticed problems when trying to sync a ER-1 & SX!
(at a friends studio, not mine...)

If we try to sync more then 1 device in SX
(let's say an ER-1 & a DX200) the ER-1 really sounds fucked
up, if we only sync the ER-1 (and nothing else!) there's no
problem.

Still haven't found what the problem is, but maybe it could
be a midi-feedback loop or something like that...

Verrry interesting. I have 3 pieces of kit I want to
connect through midi, but I'm doing things one at a time,
starting with the electribe. So the synch is all messed even
through its only one unit being connected via midi
