Kind of Blue

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 06:53 [#00069063]

You know, this really is an awesome album... I'm just
starting to realize it... the solos are excellent,
especially in So What... it's all very nice and laid back...

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 06:55 [#00069066]

you know, it sounds like the music from Simcity 3000... some
of it anyways...

titsworth_courier from washington, dc on 2002-01-13 07:04 [#00069071]

yea, the sim series was a huge influence on miles davis.

anyway yea, great album. check out his other albums too,
he's one of the best musicians who ever lived.

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 07:05 [#00069072]

heh yeah, I guess I should've said that the music from
Simcity 3000 sounds like A Kind of BLue, and not the other
way around...

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-13 07:11 [#00069075]

lol ya
i have this old simcity tribute album, and miles davis
covers a lot of their material on it

but seriously kind of blue is a great album
one of my favourites of any genre

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 07:17 [#00069077]

speaking of Kind of Blue, I own that, A Love Supreme, and
Time Out, anyone have any good suggestions for other jazz
albums to get?

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-13 07:21 [#00069078]

try bitches brew
but download the track "bitches brew" first so u know what
ur getting into
its pretty different than kind of blue
but now that i think of it uve prob heard it before

The_Funkmaster from Newfoundland, Canada on 2002-01-13 07:27 [#00069081]

yeah I'm thinking about getting that one actually... I had a
lend of it off a friend one time, but yeah, it was pretty
extreme for me at the time... but now that I've gotten into
some other jazz, I figure I might as well give it another
listen...

AMinal from toronto, canada on 2002-01-13 07:34 [#00069083]

yes i think u'd like it, considering u like electronic
music
i think it actually has a lot in common w/ SOME electronic
music

Kind of Blue is great. It's like the essential jazz album.
"Here's your swiss army knife, and here's your Kind of
Blue."

you should check out Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet...
it's really nice, with gorgeous solo's... I like it better
then A Kind of Blue actually...

you might also like Weather Report's first two albums,
'Weather Report' and 'I Sing the Body Electric'.
i'd say they are closer to the 'Bitches Brew' style tho,
especially the first one.

I've just been listening to Bitches Brew today, and plan to
tonight. I mentioned it in anotherr thrread... just.
Although by rrights that thrread should not exist.

for something with a similar vibe to Kind of Blue, you might
want to check out some of the other (1st) classic quintet
albums: Round Midnight, Cookin', Steamin', Workin', or
"Relaxin'... i wouldn't say that any of them is quite as
good... but there definitely worth while... (as is just
about anything miles did for most of his career)

Wow. Even though it's an old post, I can't believe Tits left
off "A Love Supreme".

Pure emotion in that record.

I don't much like A Love Supreme... the solos are too fast
for me, that I can't get any feeling from it... just sounds
like a load of bollocks to use a British term!
