Joy Division is great too :)
i am however more inclined to like NewOrder's more heavily integrated electronic sound

I love Joy Division and New Order, such a wonderful collection of individuals. I love everything from them, across the board, and for them to come with a track as awesome as "Crystal" at this stage in their careers is just, i don't know, very nice indeed.

I really like the first Electronic album (Bernard Sumner and Johnny Marr). It's nowhere as bad as the follow-up. In fact, it's pretty damn good. It has Neil Tennant singing on one of the tracks, 'The Patience of a Saint', then Sumner joins in. My favorite track from the first album is 'Some Distant Memory' with the oboe and all.
The CD also has the original 'Idiot Country'. As you all know :) there was a remixed version of 'Idiot Country' on the single, 'Disappointed'. The remix was by Johnny Marr.

My favorite is Movement, it's quite close to the Joy Division sound, very gloomy and dark. Any non-retard will eventually get every New Order studio album anyway, plus Substance. At least.

'Round & Round' is such a masterpiece too. I remember the video caused some controversy because it only showed faces of girls infront of the camera. Ooh.
Maybe they should've taken the safe route and let a sexy black woman prance around half-naked in a burger joint sucking on a milkshake and playing with a cherry between her lips. What the hell do I know..

Great stuff, they've both done so much for music. I've got Substance on vinyl but never even played, don't have a record player :(

i love new order. the retro box set is pretty good too - maybe not worth $50 it sells for in shops, but i bought it (still brand new) on ebay for $25, worth it for that (i missed out on the ltd. 5th disc though, which i hear is very good). i really like the live cd - great versions of Procession (my favorite NO song), world, etc. could have been better, but then again i still think it's very good

I realized how much influence New Order had on the world after listening to BT's "Lullaby for Gaia" and hearing that the bassline was rather... familiar... in a Hookish sort of way ;)
But really, another example of New Order's influence is that comedy "The Picard Song" which is a tribute to a certain Star Trek CAP-I-TAN. A certain color of a certain day of the week, heeere we come!!
