ae - cd vs. vinyl

I was intrigued how digital stuff like later ae would sound

on vinyl. ep7 - I find it is more airy (stereoy) and bit
smoother on vinyl. harsh digital trainsients toned down a
bit.

Anybody has impression on this?

yes.

Sorry, I mean it depends on the release. I prefer the
earlier stuff and Draft on vinyl, and I prefer everything
else on CD as I like the sharp digital sound in there.

they have said themselves that CD comes closest to what it
sounds like to them, on DAT I think.

and on the other hand you have the note on the "tri repetae"
sleeve that would indicate that they'd like you to listen to
that release on vinyl.

but it's whatever you prefer yourself ofcourse.

I see. Squellor on cd was like it seems to trying to rip
apart
speakers whereas on vinyl it is more chugging along.
I find ae's digital sound is smoother than most others.

I think I would prefer ep7 on vinyl most of the time except
for when trying to waking myself up.

MP3 compression <=192 has a strange rounding effect on ae's
music. Every MP3 of Confield I have heard sounds
appauling...the same with other releases of theirs..

autechre's music is well known for getting completely fucked
when compressed.

I know, but the first thing I ever downloaded was Bine off
Confield when I couldn't find the CD one night and I
couldn't beleive how bad it sounded in MP3 form. I think I
posted about it at the time, but I can't remember :)

it's a pity to think that some people only hear autechre in
mp3-form and then think it's crap, while they haven't
really heard it then.

I've often wondered just how many people have made their
mind up on low quality MP3's...Autechre are the perfect
arguement again MP3's being used for sampling new releases
because the tracks rely so much on full frequency response
as a major component.

Autechre themselves said CD is really the way they hear it
in the studio, so it's more true to form I'd think.

I guess that's what I get for not reading the thread.

All I've heard of Autechre has been mp3. I don't have a
stereo, and I figure I don't need one when I've got a
bitchin sound card and speakers that are much better than my
old stereo speakers. Whenever I buy a cd, I tend to just rip
it and compress it... It also helps to have the mp3s since I
use my iPod instead of my discman now.

I guess I should go through my Autechre cds the way they're
meant to be then, eh? Wonder if I'll hear a difference.

i just have a burnt copy of confield... but i love it...
the sound is very sharp... i know i wouldn't like the sound
of it on vinyl...

i need cichlisuite on vinyl very very badly, that is like

I prefer Vinyl, it's a much more dynamic sounding medium,
but CD's are more convinient. I just wish DAT had took as
the consumer medium when they were pushing for it many moons
ago. I yearn for DVD as the standard medium, one day.

Cichlisuite L or whatever (peencha + yeesland, it says
(l->r) on the back) is in print I think, pretty easy to
find, probably could get it on ebay for 5-7 bucks. But I
dunno what the deal is with the other half of Cichlisuite, I
think it's quire rare.

NEVER LISTENED to them in vinyl

I think you can get their albums on either one, but
definately get their eps on vinyl, envane sounds wicked
hip-hopish at 33 rpm.

I have all ae cd's and now I'm buying vinyls again. arggh,
aren't they expensive to keep.

But sound-oriented music really feels different with slight
change. Different monitors, recording medium, audio
interface, etc. And whether you feel hungry or full, etc.

the solution is easy: trying to get any release in both
physical formats. (i agree that the vinyl versions do have
more pressure than the cds, but especially the newer
releases sound more "precise" on cd. it depends on what you
want - SOUNDS or MUSIC).

mp3 is a violation of music. even a "cd quality" rip (i once
tried 256 kbit/s) of e.g. gantz graf destroys everything
worth being listened to.
