No, not a thread on the diet of our fave music peeps but
rather that Ninjatunes guy who p[layed here on Sunday night
and reall led us down the garden pathn with some serious
eclectic music.

In 3 hours he went from
hiphop, funk, regge, groove, grime <- yep..he defo played
some bootyliscious Grime, indie, bigbeat, breakbeat to
techno. He built up an amazing set spanning totally
different genres with litttle spinkles of familar riffs here
and there - hendrix, james brwn etc.

He amazingly finished up on almost Hellfish-type gabba
techno with a track called "pendulum" by i don't-know-who,
that absolutely ripped the place apart. AWESOME. I hadn;'t
dance that hard since...... for ages....

not exactly IDM but highly recomended....

The DJ Food duo (PC and Strickly Kev) has been using
compooters to mix for years. Was he REALLY doing it live????

Food started as Coldcut's sideproject.
Then over the years they took on two others & collaborated
as a foursome on a couple of LPs.
Then Coldcut decided to stick with their own name for
releases & handed the mantle on to their collaborators.
So it's 2 entirely different fellers now to when it started.

live..... vinyl. yes. he scrathed, FX'd, re-BPM'd and all
the usually deck-foolery.

he held up that last record cover for evryone to see and all
i could make out was "pendulum". its was a fucking banging
track..... something AFX would play to get the crown frothed
right up!

i saw coldcut at big chill 2003, was quite cool. they had a
visual of a drum kit and other instruments, with everything
animating when it played in the song. generally i found them
a bit cheesy though.

yeah, it was a bit cheesy in places.
but it entertained the crowd.
and i think it's only cheesy because what they do has been
lifted by so many others.
it's easy to forget that they were the first to do a lot of
these things, in this country at least.
what they pioneered has been copied now by so many others
it's virtually cliché.

erm i'm pretty sure it was coldcut... but i was very, very
caned. :) norman jay was great.

not going this year, going to glade festival instead. line
up is a bit less sleepy chill music and more IDM/breakbeat,
right up my street.

I saw dj food at homelands last year, it was almost worth
wondering amongst the dickheads to see him play.
Very eclectic indeed! Some guy stood next to me said "it's a
bit retro" well he wasd playing like some 60's 70's funk and
soul at the time so you know...

Fucking excellent though! He has the mixing skills.
