I was thinking about underworld greatest hits and I think
its a pretty good album... but then for example orbital´s
greatest hits (the work) its preatty weak I would say.

what do you think of greatest hits albums?
do you usually buy them?
are there any particularly great?

dont know any idm artist who has already a greatest hits
album

idm artists don't have hits except for aphex, and he only

i doubt an idm artist would bring out a greatest hits...it
just doesn't suite them...mostly big record companis bring
out greatest hits for money

greatest hits are nice though, its good having an artists
best tracks on one album, instead of having to change the
cds...then again...i always create my own best ofs with my
mp3s

I try to avoid buying greatest hits albums.

I only really do it when I kind of like something,
peripherally. if I think I don't want to spend time to go
through someones discog but I do want some of their stuff in
my "music collection", I'll buy a greatest hits.

I've never disliked them... I have quite a few best-ofs and
greatest-hits for older rock... The Very Best of Cream
compiles most of what I want to hear from them in one shiny
package, so it works. I have all their albums, but I still
put in Very Best Of the most.

As for electronic music, then no, I just listen to them
straight through, generally. There might be a reason, but
I'm too lazy to define it.

For rock, I really don't give a shit about albums as ALBUMS,
per se... I like collections of songs, strong songs that can
fend for themselves away from the pack... and collections of
songs are much better when the weak links are phased out.

greatest hits compilations do the artists involved a
disservice.

ESPECIALLY the smashing pumpkins piece of shit they
released. every song on their albums (pre-adore, anyways),
was perfect. and now they're all forgotten about because all
the normal punter will buy will be the rotten apples
greatest hits

i don't like greatest hits shit at all... it's just the
record label cashing in by repackaging all the songs that
you've heard the most.

i can see why someone who likes commercial music would want
a greatest hits album... because traditionally, commercial
albums are 1-3 songs that they know will sell and the rest
is complete filler. it's a good deal if you like that sort
of thing...

The only greatest Hits I've got is by The Pixies. And I'm
thinking "why the hell did I buy it, instead of all the
records"?

greatest hits cd's are for people that hear songs on the
radio and don't want to deal with the rest of the album.

I prefer proper albums with songs that compliment eachother
in a progression, not a collection of songs that have been
isolated.
