I just registered a few hours ago, I asked for some music
suggestions and was given a ton of new stuff to check out,
trouble is I can't find my post anymore.

I only seem to be able to access the first page of posts,
the drop down menu at the bottom of the screen is not
responding.

is this a problem with my browser ? (Mac IE 5.0)

That's unfortunate. As a temporary fix, try setting it to
display 50 or 100 topics per page.

could be.

what version Mac OS are you running?

if you're running Mac OS X 10.2.x you should try Safari
:)

if you're using something earlier than 10.2.x you could try
some alternatives:

FireFox
Mozilla
Camino
OmniWeb
Opera

I'm using 8.6 (been looking for a 9 update for ages), I've
had probs with forums before due to IE5.0 so I may have to
change.

ahh, damn.

I'm not sure if any of the above browsers work with 8.6

What spec Mac do you have may I ask? If it's powerful enough
for it, I'd recommend upgrading to OS X

:)

If not, then I hope that you can find a solution to your
browsing problems

depending on how recent it is and how much RAM its got etc,
it may be possible to get OS X up and running on it using an
app called Xpostfacto - as far as i know it will install OS
X on older PowerPC systems

No my Macs an old blue and white G3 Smurf Tower, OSX would
kill the poor thing, I do really need to get 9 though cos I
wanna upgrade my MIDI set up, maybe then my browser probs
will be over.

till then I'll just have to trawl at work I guess.

I have around 700mb of RAM but I'm reluctant to go to OSX as
I'm heavily reliant on a lot of apps that may not run too
well in classic mode unfortunately.

you could actually get OS X running on it, although it would
be considerably slower than it would be running 9.2.2

have you tried eBay?

there's usually legal copies of OS 9.2 floating around on
there, and as far as i know you can still get the 9.2.2
update from Apple as a free download

ahh, i see your point.

now i've got my PowerBook i can't boot into OS 9. I miss
that, because on my iBook i could, and I needed OS 9 for
Duke Nukem 3D as there's only one OS X port of it and it
doesn't even work!

I'd try and download it but I'm on a crappy dial up
connection, I've currently got about 3 or 4 people on the
case for a 9 disc so I hope to get one eventually.

Do you know if I can update 8.6 to any version of 9 or do I
have to go in stages, I've been told that 9.2 is the best
for audio and MIDI work?

offline soundguy from London (United Kingdom) on 2004-06-02 17:41 [#01220178]

No Duke Nukem? hell I wouldn't want to be without that,
that's for sure

I'm not sure if there are any sequential updates.

usually a major version release of Mac OS requires you to
buy the full version.

I have used a Mac OS 9.1 system for MIDI and Audio work (my
college's machines all ran 9.1 during my course there) and
they were very reliable :)

Just change the number after start= in the address bar to
whatever you need (so if you have 25 topics showing per page
change the number to 25 to show the next page and so on.
The same works in topics with more than 25 posts just change
the value of start= to whatever you need.

heh, well i do miss it very much, but I do have it for GBA
so at least i'm not totally without a dose of Duke.

anyways, I'm an id Software fan.

I've got on my machine at the moment:

Aliens vs Predator
DOOM
DOOM II
Final DOOM
Quake
Quake II
Quake III Arena
Return to Castle Wolfenstein

and when it comes out (and if it'll run on my machine) I'll
have DOOM3 too!

I've kind of found a workaround, I can view all my posts in
my user profile though it would be nice to view all of
them,
what's the purge rate for this board

Osccillik I've played many of the games you mentioned, I
just love FPS, do you use Gamefaqs? my Mac is far too slow
for anything more recent than Alien vs Predator though.
MOH-Frontline,Half Life and the Red Factions are all really
good too, not sure if they are on the Mac though, Halo is
meant to kick ass though and that is.

promise not to tell and I'll e-mail it to you if you really
wanna know, but it's a bit too much like washing your dirty
laundry in public to post it on a forum.
