Did anyone watch this tonight? I understand how people move
the glass on the oujia board subconciously or whatever but
when theat girl acted as a medium at the end and the little
girls voice i thought it was fucking scary and was that bit
a spirit or not? I mean I know Jane was alive but who was
the spirit?

They shouldnt trivialise this stuff on tv its irresponsible.
I wonder how many people will get involved in it after
seeing that. Not good IMO

you people should explain to us non-UKish people what you
are talking about. I understand it's a tv show... with
nudity?

It's not fake. That was live and it was live tonight. Theres
no dodgy camera cutting like there is with Blaine's shows.
And besides its not magic its mind controls.

Derren hosted a live seance on tv tonight in UK and it was
fucking spooky at the end when that ball glided through the
air. Noone moved that cos there were only installed night
vision cameras in the room and everyone was clearly sat
still holding hands round the table. Scariest thing Ive ever
seen anyway and im not easily scared.

yes the Russion Roulette was live, but it was also fake

Channel 4 even admitted that it was fake

The seance tonight wasn't live.

The Russian Roulette was not fake.

Derren Browne is great.

I predicted that "jane" was a faked character and made up.

Derren Browne is great.

if it wasn't faked, why did Channel 4 admit that it was?

and do you really think that a TV channel would allow
someone to be shot dead on live Television?

Derren always shows his working to an extent which is why
he's great. It's all about the sub-concious mind.

Thought Jane would be alive too but not sure what went on
with the spirit at the end.

'Jane' or the girl in the photo did exist though as she
appeared at the very end.

Well, Derren Browne came out and said it wasn't fake, so
take your pick. There was a slight delay in transmission, so
if he'd died, it wouldn't have been shown.

it was all very obvious what was going to happen from the
start. unfortuntely without the aid of some paper i cannot
demostrate it but there was a 5-1 chance that jane would be
picked, therefore a probable outcome that 10 would pick jane
and 2 would pick someone else. from then on i watched in
hysterics as the gullable people were gradually sucked in.
fair play to him.

there were lots of other pointers to give it all away. the
phonecalls made to him which were broadcast at the breaks
were from a handful of succeptable people that just by
chance had something odd happen at the time (and by chance,
i mean 2 million people watching, 20,000 willing to phone
in, 200 perhaps experienced something odd, it all pads
out).

when he marked a card with an X to choose who the medium
would be he is adept enough with cards to easily make the
person who he would like to choose the X by throwing the
cards on the table and letting people pick them.

as for putting people into states of increased
succeptability, he's done that a million times before, and
he's very good at it.

overall, i enjoyed it immensly.

Just a powerful way of showing what he can do. But still how
did that girl know Jane's story and why did she speak like a
little girl? And the stuff moving? Looked too convincing to
me.

That's the beauty with Derren - there are things that are
easily explained, but he does shit that's just baffling!
Like, at the start, when he told that girl about her
recently deceased Grandmother, Nora.

EVerything he did was psychological.

If anyone ever saw what he did with the advertising bods,
then I recon that's what he did with this

ermmm.. as much as I love Derren Brown (I really do, he is
one of my favorite people) - His tricks are quite obvious to
figure out if you ever see them twice...

The gun trick was really old - Just a case of turning the
barrel and feeling which chamber's live through the hammer..
The whole rest of that show was a distraction from that.

Still, a little risky! And it did get me when I first saw
it! Only the second time when I wasn't so caught up in it I
saw the "trick".

The seance wasn't live tonight.

First, everyone would pick that girl if they followed the
instructions around the grid - I tried the same thing
starting on different people and always arrived there -
Straight forward - The kind of trick you see on the back of
cerial packets.

The thing you have to realise about the show was that
everyone involved was under hypnosis.

It was very clear - I have had hypnotherapy before, so it's
not hard to spot!

He even admitted he'd chosen the most "suggestible" people
possible - All incredibly easy to hypnotize.

He would have hypnotized them together as a group before the
show - Maybe even suggesting it was a relaxation exercise -
And maybe even many hours earlier.

The whole show was just about the hypnosis - Much of the
information was planted in the volenteers before hand - The
rest was fairly obviously "lead" and induced by his own
suggestions - Which were clear as day throughout.

It didn't really have anything to do with real seances, as I
don't think it's customary to find incredibly suggestible
people and put them all under hypnotic trance.

But it was a great show, and he's a very clever bloke.

well it's totaly possible to put people in a trance almost
instantly, like he did on the tube to make people forget the
stop they're waiting for, or making people fall asleep when
they answer the phone, so he may have done it on camera just
before the "things" start to happen.

Yeah I guess instant hypnosis may be possible - Although
I've not been able to find out anything about it.

I think there is often a lot off camera to many of Derren
Browns' tricks - A lot like with David Blane - I would
imagine, especially on his street tricks, that he gets a
fair few misses and cock-ups.

The people falling asleep from the phone call thing, I would
suspect they have been properly hypnotized before hand -
Simply because a technique like that would be exploited a
hell of a lot if it were possible to do that kind of thing
on a regular person in a normal state of mind... You can
certainly hypnotize certain people quite easily, without
them realizing, but, as far as I know, it still requires
complete relaxation and the right setting and things - It's
not something you could do to someone if they weren't
prepared to lie down and listen to your voice for a few
minutes... Unless maybe there are other ways to do it!?

You could de-rail trains and crash aircraft if it were that
easy though - Terrorists would never have to leave their
sofas.

It's easy to forget, Derren Brown is really a magician first
and foremost - He just dresses it up as pure mind tricks and
psychology - But I'd say that only accounts for maybe 1/3rd
of his act... He's a lot like a street magician in the way
he edits his tricks I think.

I didn't watch this show. But I did see the Russian Roulette
thing.
It wasn't a sham, it was exactly what he said it was.. an
excercise in predicting which chamber his volunteer will
have loaded the bullett into. Or did you miss the first hour
of footage? The whole thing was about picking a guy who was
a terrible liar, easily predictable and wide open to
Derren's subtle influence.
Even if (as police sources at the undisclosed location
claimed following the transmission of the show) the rounds
in the gun were blanks, he still guessed right.
Claiming that the rounds were live and that he could die is
all just publicity for the programme. It wouldn't have
generated half as much interest otherwise. By and large, the
viewing public are only attracted to a show via the promise
of sex and death.
But Brown even said right at the start of the show that all
he was going to do was a variation on the old cup&ball
trick.

To be honest, I find his smaller tricks more entertaining.
Anyone that saw the one with the advertising execs will know
what I mean. His most interesting stuff is all about the
power of suggestion on ordinary people in ordinary
situations.

The seance-thing sounds a bit gimmicky, but that seems to be
the direction he's chosen to go in in order to gain more
publicity.
One disappointing thing is that he seems to explain what
he's doing less and less these days. When he first turned up
on TV a few years ago he was trying to move away from the
illusion of 'magic' and present what he was doing for what
it really is.. now, however he seems to be returning to a
more mystical format. Which gets boring fast, for me at
least.

I did like his 9 simulataneous games of chess trick the
other week though.

I think he always said they were blanks in the gun, but they
would still hurt or kill him or something anyway. I think.

And with the seance, werent you supposed to be able to do
something at home? The advert said to get letters of the
alphabet arranged on a table, and a glass. I didn't watch it
felled into sleep.
