What's big in Japan right now, I mean pop culture-wise?
Anyone know anything about it?
post links if you have any.

Look no further than Fuckedgaijin.com
A site run by foreigners living, working/studying in japan.
If there's something new, they'll know.
Awesome forum community too

mappatazee / tolstoyed

yeah..
I was thinking more of specific songs that'd be sung in the
karaoke bars, and stuff. Specific artists/etc.

Liverpool band Big in Japan, formed in 1977, comprised of,
among others, Budgie (later the drummer of Souixsie & the
Banshees), Ian Broudie (Lightening Seeds), Holly Johnson
(Frankie goes to Hollywood) and Bill Drummond (KLF,
Justified Ancients of Mu Mu). However, by all accounts,
despite this surfeit of talent, they weren't very good.

japanese pop music scene isn't quite interesting for me. i
think that they are a bit lowblow. what's big?... if i
answer objective it...

southern allstars
hikaru utada
ayumi hamasaki
mr children
morning musme.
b'z
smap
etc...

they are quite good for karaoke.

Yaoi is quite big in Japan, anime boys having sex with each
other.

Video games are actually having a bit of a rocky time over
there... Hideo Kojima himself said that Japanese developers
are churning out copious amounts of total shit. I tend to
agree.

Do they have a metal/hardcore scene? I am trying to imagine
a Jersey or N.Y Hardcore scene over there.
