Hey all, I was wondering if you could reccomend a good USB Audio/MIDI interface. Im looking for one that has enough outputs to use traktor properly, and low latency MIDI for my MIDI controllers.
Also: Are there firewire-usb converters? Do they work well with say the firewire audiophile from M-audio or do they work like crap?
Also, my laptop has a tiny port in the back labeled "IEEE 1394". Anyone know what the hell that is?
Cheers for any answers to these questions :)

My IEEE 1394 port looks like This But when I looked at firewire devices, their port always looks like this
Unless each side of a firewire cable is different...

Ok so I guess I do have firewire. That is absolutely FANTASTIC news to me :)
Now another question if I may... What are the core differences between the M-Audio Firewire Audiophile and the M-Audio Firewire 410 ?

first, all firewire interfaces come with six-pin firewire cables. be sure to buy a four-pin firewire cable. the most significant differences between the audiophile and the 410 are the input/output connections. the audiophile only uses RCA connecters. these are generally regarded as consumer connections ie: the kind you find on home stereos, tv's and vcr's. technically they are digital connections (spdf) on the audiophile, but most people don't know that or have nothing to connect them to digitally and just use them as typical analog connections. the 410 uses tip ring sleeve connections or balanced 1/4" cables. that means it's like have a grounded three pronged cable (microwave, refridgerator) instead of a two pronged cable (tv, vcr). that mumbo jumbo translates to: you'll have less ground noise in your audio (hum) and run a lesser risk of ground noise loops using the 410 than the audiophile. the 410 also has more ouputs as you noted. this is effective for sending individual audio outputs to a mixer where you can be more hands on with your volumes and mixes. some people prefer this method rather than mix with a mouse in software. you could also do 5.1 surround mixes with the 410 and won't be able to do with the audiophile. those are the main differences. the 410 is regarded as a more professional box with more features than the audiophile. perhaps those fancier features don't justify the price difference to you. i do recommend the 410 though if you can afford it. i think it would serve you better in the long run if your audio needs should expand in the future. good luck.

My laptop's firewire port is a 4 pin. Could I use a 6 pin to 4pin firwire cable with the 410?
