FUCKING HELL.
this news could well be 'old' but i had to mention it anyway.
i dont know if this is great or terrible news. So often have i wondered how cool it would be to see certain scenes on screen. but then, it could easily ruin the book. BUT THEN, the harry potter movies are great too and i could still enjoy the last book (dont even start hatin').
The Golden Compass is now without a doubt my favourite book and i'm currently reading part 3: The Amber Spyglass.
I found this out by accident when i was doing a google image search for golden compass and i ended up HERE
this news could well be 'old' but i had to mention it anyway.
also, there's a hilarious fictional comic conversation between Howard B. Zimmerframe and Jim Haufmann here
they even have a few names for the cast already.
your thoughts, please

yeah i'm considering getting lyra's oxford but its ridiculously expensive here. trying to find it cheap online.
and yeah of course the film will be good but arent you afraid that they somehow mess up the whole feel of the books? i mean, if its going to get hyped up like harry potter, i wouldnt be very happy with it.

Harry potter is not as philosophical, so I doubt they could fuck up the most underlying themes of the book. I got lyras oxford, it was expensive but it has a cool fold out map thing and loads of postcards and weird ilustrations, the book itself is only 50 pages, but is in a nice red hardback (the exact same material as the Amnesiac special edition CD)
I think it will be hyped in a different way, as you know its going to be good no matter how much they fuck it up. They obviously have these rights and a bloody good thing to play with. Imagine the zepplin scene where that lightning bolt is summoned and goes through it, that on the big screen, yum.
I enjoyed redaing His Dark Materials more than LOTR
and I think I will like the film more, depends who directs/if they want to make it dark and nuts. My fav Dir would be Darren Arrons (cant spell his name) who made requium for a dream/pie
he could put a wonderful trilogy together.

oh, and the series was great. heh.
i think i'd be interested in seeing a movie. of course it'd ruin some things, but...i dunno. after seeing harry potter and LOTR, i'd be curious to see what they do with HDM. could be good, you never know.

I've read all three, And I wonder if a movie could capture the feel of the book, really.
Would be strange, though.
