well heres my problem: ive had my new laptop for about a
month now, and when i first got it, i only enabled the
windows xp firewall, figuring that would be enough to
protect me from shit. but it wasnt and some really annoying
spyware is sitting on my comp. it constantly pops up ads and
shit and i cant get rid of it! ive tried adaware, spybot and
norton antivirus (all with most recent updates) but nothing
can get rid of it. anybody know of a way to find out which
program is making all of these damn things? ive really had
it up to here with this shit.

are you sure that you had ad-aware and spybot scan your
entire computer? registry and all drives?

check what processes are running in the background
kill the ones you are suspicious about

ok i think i have an idea of which processes is causing it,
but when i kill then in task manager they just come right
back in a minute or so. anyone know anything about IwyV8.exe
and CmwE349.exe?

kill them all, exept for the ones you really need

then, find a way to check what processes load on startup
(use microsoft knowledge base - i dont know but theres a
tool for it)

uncheck phoney ones, reboot, do this untill the problem is
gone

ie., disabling 1 by 1 to check whats causing it.

d/l this program.

it checks the registry for all stuff like this and you can
delete them manually. then if you adaware after that, and
it doesn't work......then you're pretty much shit out of
luck.

ill try that, thanks, although through my own registry
snooping from what ive got going at the moment i seem to
have solved the problem. its been about 15 minutes since
reboot and no popups yet!
