jimmy is kool,if you listened to hip hop or sould you would
maybe appreciate his music a bit more.
i think we had one thread when Access Rhythm came out...

personally i can't see wha chris clark would be rated any
higher than jimmy edgar...they're both pretty much boring
and uninteresting so they fall into same category as far as
im concerned...

Because chris clarks music isn't as good and i don't like
his choice of sounds and textures bery much.

That's my reason anyway.

oh...deja vu,damn!

well,i think that about afx sometimes, but clark sounds good
4 me.
has that special frequency that he does which i like.

because he's trying too hard...and it is extremly
predictable and without the slightest sign of imagination.
imo ofcourse.

he has to...afterall it a big pressure for someone his age
to make an contract with Warp.
yeah, you can say that he lacks some imagination, all of the
melodies in Access Rhythm are samples from old skool funk
and soul.
i see his music as an futuristic view on crate digging and
the culture of hip hop instrumentals...
it's just my view, cos i like sampling and all that_shit

i feel exactly the same about it.. it has a sort of
futuristic thing over it.

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-04-29 13:05 [#01167087]

warp is turning to shit...all they do is sign up people who
are producing "sweet" music that sells good...there are only
squarepusher (and he won't stay much longer either i
imagine...) and brothomstates left, of all those decent
people there used to be...terrible...

it is terrible...warp is slowly taking an shape of cheezy
label.
in about a few years they will start to release stuff that's
not intended to be under thir code.
i think that first think to come was edgar...this relase
struck me when i saw it's under warp.
warp will loose it's charm and quality just because greed is
in question.
maybe i'm wrong,but i feel it's like that.

i'm sure it's hard to name up and comers when you only
listen to rephlex and warp

i feel the same about it...
they are signing these young (cheap) artists that have
potential of attracting a lot of buyers instead of sticking
with people that brought warp to where it is now (well, at
least to where it was couple of years ago...)...ah well...

i bet they got an massive ammount of good demo music..but
god knows why they tend to do stuff they started to do.

money is involved obviously...

the answer to the poll is none of the above. i think the
following producers all have brighter futures than those
listed:

- richard devine
- four tet
- fennesz
- dntel
- matmos

each have released enough material of quality for me to
trust that all future projects of theirs will at the very
least be interesting. whereas ventian snares, mira, chris
clark, ovuca etc., may be hit or miss.

begrudgingly i voted for mr. funk... i never vote other
cause it's a vote for nothing in particular...

but yeah... the first 3 songs on that jimmy edgar ep all
have lots of potential (all the samples are ace)... they
just never going anywhere... and the last song IS ACE... but
come now... all of the artists in that poll are
derivative... our hope for the future lies in those who are
capable of goodness without their forefathers showing them
where the hell its at...

yes, i kind of agree with you

fennesz + 4 tet = RAWSOM

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2004-04-29 14:34 [#01167345]

fennesz
prefuse
daedelus
dabrye
jan jelinek
tim hecker
Cristian Vogel
team doyobi
jason forrest
... i dunno it's kind of tought to say... i'm more confident
about particular labels (sonig, CCO, orthlorng musork,
touch, staubgold, skam, ~scape, mego, etc.) digging up the
talent than i am about any particular artist... plus i feel
like a lot of guys who are already well established (like
those listed above as well as dudes like Oval, Req, Frank
Bretschneider, Hafler Trio, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Mouse
on Mars etc.) still have awesome mind blowing albums left in
them...
