...they're seriously considering it.

"for terrorists only", or so they say.

that they're considering bringing death penalty back in
france, for terrorists.

how do they define terrorists?

sounds like you're on the road to a police-state, if this
goes through.

there'll be terrorists left, right and center.

Don't worry about it, we have the death penalty in this
country still (it never went away), it hasn't been used in
years. I was wondering if any of the Guantanamo bay lot were
going to be offed for "Treason in time of War" (one of the
few offences it's still applicable for). Blunkett has
obviously forgotten or else he'd be leaping at the chance to
use it.

mmyes, but it's very different if the death-penalty is
re-introduced.

that indicates that it has not been forgotten, in fact, that
they are planning to use it.

Actually you are wrong. There are no crimes in the UK
punishable by death.

qrter > it is definitely becoming a police-state... =
/

with the new laws they passed, now they can keep people for
interrogatory (is this the right word?) for up to 92 hours
or something like that, they're censoring and filtrating the
internet (or at least they plan to!), they don't give a fuck
about people say even when there are strikes etc..
and we don't even know everything yet - for the internet
law, for example, they never talk about it on tv...
that's information we get through the internet, otherwise i
wouldn't even be aware of it...

princo > actually, if it goes on like this, i'd rather die
than live in a fascist state. (or just change country if i
can - but that would be complicated, and lots of other
countries are in terrible situations too...)

for young people to meet in the hall of a building...

"there'll be terrorists left, right and center."

indeed, that's very worrying. If they don't like you they
just label you a terrorist and put you away. Something like
what's happening in Guantamo Bay at this very moment only
permanently.

but i'm not even sure.

would you have thought that that internet law had passed?

I don't know much about French politics, but I am sure
someone said "at your service" on this board while roaring
across this thread.

As far as I am concerned, sides are all same to me. It is
just that you never know who is next in either way.

No, such descrimination is not good.
But flames need to start somewhere.....

Rome wasn't built in one day, they say.

Regicide.
Arson on a naval dockyard.
High Treason in time of War.

And there's one other thing it applies that I can't
remember.

There's one "working" set of gallows in the country still,
in Portsmouth I believe...

Death penalty was never gone.. it was always there, just
more underground.. and then it becomes "retro"

just like Intelligent Dance Music, like we are Intelligent
Dance Musicians, and thusly VEEEEERY underground (or maybe
not)...

IJEST!

Nope, you are wrong. The Human Rights Act 1998 means we
have completely abolished the death penalty including the
five military wartime offenses which could previously have
been enforced under the Armed Forces Act. Permanent
abolition took place on 20th May 1999.

Trust me, I'm a scouser :D

On a side note, with the abolition the average life
expentency of a scouser increased by 10 years....which is
good news :D!!!

Fair one, I'd entirely forgotten about the human rights act
(It's a piece of crap and I have little interest in it) and
I admit it was around '96/'97 I saw the gallows!

A person from Ecnadniarb's bit of the country.

They are renowed for petty theft and stealing car radios.

In all seriosness though, I've yet to meet a scouser I've
not liked (even if I do make sure I know where my wallet is
when they're around :-P)
