just visited Apple.com and there's a new version of iTunes
available that boasts lossless encoding?

anyone know what encoder is being used for this?

oscillik > the colour of iTunes application & files icons.

it was blue for iTunes 2, purple for iTunes 3.
purple was my favourite... =)
i don't like that green that much.

at what quality do people import their music in itunes? I've
set mine to 192 kps.

yeh that's pretty cool too

also i think they've optimized the visualizations engine -
seems to run faster now on my iBook

:)

it'll be scorching on a PowerBook!

the lossless encoding creates files at something like 900
kps but the file size is much bigger than aac

offline uzim on 2004-04-28 14:20 [#01165042]

192 kbps for me too.

oh ok, looks like i wont be using that then

i'll stick with 160Kbps AAC for now

i'm just about to try out the feature where you can join the
tracks together for seamless transition from track to track
(no gap). It somehow still keeps them as individual files.

Are iPods the best thing if you want a reasonable amount of
diskspace for an MP3 player? I mean at LEAST 10GB. iPod the
only thing?

really?

i was under the impression that it encodes it as one big
file??

can you confirm if its separate files?

>mappatazee

no i think there are others, but i don't think they come
anywhere close to the iPod's size for such a large capacity

*please don't quote me on this, i'm not too clued up on
music players*

i think you need quicktime 6.5.1 to use losless and it
increases the quality of AAC encoding. Its available to
download now form apple

i meant it's PHYSICAL size, not hard drive size

"was under the impression that it encodes it as one big

right, well size as juxtaposed against capacity, I didn't
get confused until you mentioned it :D

>pantalaimon

ah shit

i would have used it if it kept it as each individual file

thanks for confirming though

>mappatazee

ah, sorry for added to confusion

also if you have a PC, do you have to get a PC formatted
one? or are they all compatable?

(BTW, 50% size reduction is standard for good lossless audio
compression algorithms. Also, ogg trumps you biznatches)
