It (reasonably accurately) emulates the classic TR-808 and TR-909 drum machines and of course, the legendry TB-303 bass synthesiser (main instrument in "acid" music).
It's good for doing acid/techno music. It's a bit boring having tracks using nothing but rebirth, but combined with other programs it's pretty cool. Personally I think the 303 sound is a bit too "clean". Audiorealism's Bass Line sounds more like a real 303.

Generally you'd use the 909 for beats, the 808 for percussion, one 303 for the bassline and the other (there are two copies of a 303 in it) for acid type higher pitched noises.

Generally I use the two 303s to make dense rhythmic progressions, I use the 909 as a heavily distorted percussion rack, and I use the 808 as etheral vibrations rippling across an acid universe. Then I woke up and Ceri had eaten all of the strawberries and it was no fun anymore :(

Awww, we love "acid kompressor" Paul ;) I was just saying what the conventions in a lot of tracks were- of course there's a lot of room for experimentation!
I haven't had strawberries since Sunday. I had some pureed with vanilla gin on top of starwberry icecream. It came pretty close to beating my mother's home made peach and rum ice cream, which is my all time favourite ice cream.

Being a simple lad, I had strawberries yesterday, with no garnishes.
BTW, Acid Kompressor is an awesome track! Especially with the volume cranked up! It's truly a dance of 303s at one point -- it's ecstacy, and anyone who doesn't like it, or feel that wave is an BUTTHOLE!

yeah ive been using rebirth for a couple of years now and its very limited by itself, but when used with reason or any other program it can add to it a lot. I sampled off the 909 and 808 drum sounds and use them in other sampler software and create basslines and squelches and screams with the 303s.
