get AD-AWARE. It's free, and specially designed to
remove spyware - it's also user-friendly and highly
effective.

i'm not sure on the legitimacy of what i've read, but i'm
sure i've read that AD-AWARE is itself a kind of spyware, or
it does something to your system that you don't really want
it to do

??

pain in the ass.

i'll read up on the ad aware. if that doesnt work i guess im
gonna have to reformat...

yeah i know.....i had to do it the other week on my Mac,
because i fiddled around a bit too much with the UNIX
stuff

it took me two and a half weeks to get back up and running
how I like my machine (installing software, configuring
software etc etc etc)

Don't forget, I'm running:

Mac OS 9.22 (with apps)
Mac OS X 10.3.3 (HUNDREDS of apps!)
MS-DOS 6.22 & Windows 3.11
Windows NT Workstation 4
Windows 2000 Professional
Windows XP Professional

all on the same iBook

it takes a SHITLOAD of time to get back up and running

and guess what? I'm gonna have to do it all again if/when I
get my Powerbook

itself

:)

ad-aware is good.

spybot is also good.

run both just to be sure.

AVG antivirus is a free antivirus program as well. it's
been very good to me.

:\

do you have kazaa installed, and/or do you download a bunch
of pirated software through p2p apps? that will make your
computer very unhappy.

i hear kazaa lite is much better.

plus, Internet Explorer is a festering wound waiting to be
infected with various spywares. use firefox instead.
not only is it a better browser, but it's much more immune
to things of that nature. :)

just to reiterate; seeing as you were pretty eaten up, you
should probably run spybot & some sort of antivirus
application as well to be on the safe side.

all.

kazaa lite professes it contains no spyware.

they are lying - it does contain spyware.

that's what i figured.

basically, i'd be very wary of any p2p software. chances
are the developers have somewhat loose moral standards.

are there any opensource p2p apps?
