great game this one...

meant a lot to me as a kid, think it was the first hard game
I ever finished and cared about...

I have the gameboy-version. Was one of the first
gameboy-games I ever bought. It was indeed very hard. But
so playable and well made. At first each level seems
impossible. But with enough practice it actually becomes
quite easy. That sort of rope (never read the manual, not
sure what it actually is) that he uses to swing from ledges
works like a dream! They should do a remake for one of the
nextgen-consoles.

Yeah that was a great game!

I wonder if it would be equally great if they made it for
todays machines ?

Do you mean the arcade or the nes version (they're very
different games)? I remember swapping Probotector (Contra to
the non-brits) for this and then falling out of touch with
the kid. We met up after a few years and swapped them back.
I think I prefer probotector, but only because I completed
bionic commando (and still haven't beaten contra without
infinite lives).

That was like the arcade version. The Nes version had
entirely different levels, storyline etc. the only thing
really the same was the basic play mechanic.

Anyone remember the grappling hook mod for Quake 1? That was
quality...

Oh and the music was by none other than the great Tim
Folin!!

I spoke to Tim once on the phone. He thinks his music from
those days is a pile of shit too! Weird eh but alongside
Ghouls and Ghosts his music will go down in history.

Ghouls 'N Ghosts was, until recently, my favourite
platformer. I really like the Megadrive version (nearest to
the arcade) as opposed to that nigh on impossible
monstrosity, Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts (on the Snes, almost
more like GnG 3)

dun da da

deeeee dooooo
deeeeeee

duh da
da da daaaaaaaah

(my impression of level 1 music)

I never played it as a kid but recently bought and beat it.
At first it seems like it will be a really long and hard
game, but as you get going you find out it's not really
that long or difficult. It is quite fun and unique.

I also got gunstar heroes. I thought it would be better
given the hype. It's one of those games where one weapon
(the double homing stars) is unbalanced by being way better
than the rest. I havn't beat it on the harder difficulties
though.

I just rented gradius for ps2, that was a joke practically.
I have return to castle wolfenstein rented right now. I just
started and it seems to suck even though ID made it...
goldeneye for n64 seems better.

Oh man... ghouls and ghosts for nes was great but for
snes... I have my cart lying on the floor in this very room
with a huge gash in it. It's the only cart I ever got pissed
enough to attempt to destroy. I forget if I smashed it with
a hammer or what.. but the design was so fucked up because
you needed that retarded weapon the princess demands you
have before she'll let you fight the final boss. Why the
hell would the programmer of this game include fire as a
weapon. Does he/she think that is useful at all? One of the
enemies most potent attacks is dropping pots with fire to
make you accidently pick it up. Plus you can't shoot up or
down, plus the double jump is gay.

funny you should mention it - i was just playing this right
before i came here. i also changed my avatar last night.

but yes, it is one of my favorite games of all time -
difficult, but great.

Have you seen the BIONIC COMMANDO track on Clandestine Bo...

Just finished a five-hour commando spree on Bionic Commando,
ending with completion of the game. Ladd doesn't leave the
man behind!

Watch out for Master-D and General Killt!

Ah, the old cheesy NES names.

your avatar change was the inspiration for me to start this
thread,

loved the last'ish boss where you gotta climb up inside the
tank, brilliance,. finished it back in the day, and can't
even do it now,.. there's a few bits where I get stuck, but
oh well, what can you do...

I really like BC... THe NES-version that is.
The game was difficult, but I remember a friend and I played
it quite a lot and even imagined that we were the hero of
the game (when we were playing outside).
Great music in the game aswell.

This game was pretty good, and seriously deserves a 128 bit
update. That bionic arm... so many possibilities.

I have a Worlds of Power novel. It's retarded, but it's just
like playing a video game.

''To shoot a rocket at the Ninjas, turn to page 46''
''To escape by latching onto the helicopter using your
bionic arm, turn to page 54''.

hahaha!! i had a book like that too, for Mario Brothers!

Too bad Bionic Commando looks like a super spandex sissy on
the cover. Ladd was much mor hardcore than that.

This remains a spectacular game to this day, perhaps
Capcom's best NES product. I'd go as far as saying it
outranks the Mega Man games for its sheer uniqueness and
style.

I wish I had an NES and a Bionic Commando cartridge right
now.

Several years ago I have. Doesn't it require DOS?

Of course, I have DOSBox now, so I might be able to
run an emulator (off of another emulator!) now.

newer emulators don't require DOS - they're all made for
windows now

check out here

i love the soundtrack to this game

no no, try FCE Ultra - that's what i use, it's far less
annoying IMO. :)

but from what i've heard, NESticle is good too.

I emulate all my nintendogames on imbnes (on PSX [1])...
In fact the only games I play on the psx are nesgames, hehe
but it's good, except I don't have a modchip so I have to go
through the boot-process every time.

I also use FCEU, it's all I've EVER used for the past three
years. Great, no-frills emulator, does everything it needs
to do perfectly.

NESticle is gross because the cursor is a dismembered hand.
