Why don't Detroit pioneers get more respect around here?

Detroit is so important yet no one ever speaks about it
here.

Still not a lot of discussion in my experience.

not that many people here have had the chance to feel it.
Mills/May/Atkins/Hood have helped this music to be born soo
much.

It's a bit like a fast food place, it's hot NOW
'Astrobotnia' etc but it'll change/develop absoloutly
nothing.

No one seems to do much techno/house on the board at all. I
think I'm probably the only person who does techno at all.
Probably exagerating but very few demo artists on the board
seem to do straight up 808/909 techno vibes.

Yeah true true. Maybe its the old foggie in me. But when I
think of artists such as Kevin Saunderson, Drexciya and
especially Juan Atkins their music is so powerful and yet
pretty underacknowledged.

I'm listening to the Infiniti Collection by Juan Atkins at
the mo and its so damn funky!!!

Some people need to get out more.... by yourself on your
headphones is one way to appreciate music but it's not the
pinacle of enjoyment.

'Off to battle' is one of my favourite Juan Atkins traks and
'The Skies' is genius!

I think most people who frequent this board are into coined
"IDM" stylings, which granted is deeply rooted in House and
Techno.

Tough to pick the best Juan Atkins track. His best for me
will always be 'Clear' but I'd probably say 'Time, Space,
Transmat (Night drive through babylon)' in Model 500 mode.

Tell you something JivverDicker, you gotta check out his
Infiniti shit!!! Especially track 6 'Game One'!!

'Clear' was what I meant when I said 'the skies'! I'm crap
with titles...

Infiniti is his later stuff isn't it?

Juan is Ill at the moment.. quite seriousley 8 (

He's one of my heroes for sure.

I still dig techno a lot. I went off it in a way when I
started to get into Squarepusher (back in '95). That said
most of the records I bought were basically techno before it
mutated into IDM/Autechre/etc etc. But I'm more now overall
into fairly straight forward beats. Still dig drill but I
prefer more regimented beats. I guess it all depends. But I
went off techno a lot but now I can enjoy it no probs. Of
course has to be good techno like I guess anything.

probably cos a lot of ppl here are mainly into idm,tho i
grew upon detroit sounds, and always admired the old
crew...carl craig,saunderson,derrick may,mike grant,random
noize generation,octave one and such.
i have to say that jeff mills isn't my cup of tea,but some
stuff is freekin'...like wrath of the punisher!!!
nowdays we have some other guys who push the envelope, but i
have a feeling that the original idea of techno music isn't
stuff that's beenmented to be.
a lot of techno comes from europe...and in a way i see it
like a counteballance to the detroit crew.
on the other hand,it's really weird how come that detroit
techno was never fully accepted by american ppl,but then you
have an festival like Detroit Electronic Festival , where 2 years ago
came 1 million people....ironic isn't it?
all of the motor city artist say that the biggest
recognition they got was in europe!

well,im happy cos of one thing... i got the opportunity to
play with john acquaviva last weekend,so that made my whole
detroit experience even more realistic.
