Actually that's not half bad, eccy. Reminds me of the end
bit of nuane, only more rubato kinda. Nice textures and
production. Work it into something.

Not random enough and humiliating.

But seriously, I've heard far worse. Lee is probably

well, im no kiss ass... i meant what i said about it and i
agree that if you made it more freeform and kinda "eventy"
it could be the basis for a really nice piece.

I liked it, i liked the "cat in space" noise going through
it. There aren't enough cats in electronic music, or indeed
any form of music.

erm...what track did you listen to then?...because it is
completely random except for the synth...I was trying to
make it sound not as random as it should though...I mean
that in all seriousness...the percussion is totally randomly
generated.

the one you posted

the beats sound like a drill created through recording the
sound though a wav editor and looping parts with the
selector

Oh I see. You would know having made something like this
yourself? If you have, post it.

I haven't heard this sort of thing done by a wav
editor...but if you would like to prove me wrong, feel free.

im to lazy but i wasnt trying to prove anything niether do i
have anything to prove

i dont know why your getting on the defensive about a track
you said yourself is "Completely random bullshit."

i just gave you my opinion and a honest one at that rather
than a brown cunt box i love you lee post

offline ecnadniarb on 2004-04-03 07:21 [#01131027]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

haha, I wasn't getting defensive...it's just your rather
unconstructive criticism in the post was seeming to belittle
the technique used to produce the track. As this technique
is something I will be workng further on (incidently it
doesn't go near a wave editor) I was just wondering whether
you had a specific problem with it. As far as you comment
regarding it sounds like drill blah blah blah...that is
exactly how trackers produce drill as well...most drill
tracks are produced that way.

This track is shit, but the methods used will be developed
further.

I thank you for your honest post. Fuck everyone else who
posted, the brown nose cunt boxes. :D

It's not very random, it's rather GOOD! I really like the
"sad" sound, the one which pitchbends down like a dolphin.
Nice stuff. Some more structure to the rhythms and it's a
top40 hit, in an XLT way :)

Thanks for listening :)

Basically, the whole peice is based on 0.5 second
transitions of random repetition at slightly varying
pitches, speeds and lengths. So essentially my thinking
when I was building the machine for the percussion was
basically 120bpm but in place of beats where randomly timed
loops. The synths were built in MSP as well. I considered
developing them more but for this initial, sort of test
machine, thing I decided to keep the contrast between the
synth and percussion as much as possible.

So, is there any kind of "extended demo" available of
max/msp?

I agree with nobsmuggler's description.
Wav editor like samplitude can do 'beats sound like a drill'
with storing the selector loops in F1>F12 keys...
