I wouldn't pay anything to have it done for me - I enjoy
doing it myself; in fact, it's one of my most favourite
things to do. Watching all the nice bars slowly fill up...
starting over... and in the end it's like you have a whole
new computer. Ooooo... I'd do it again right now if it
wasn't for the fact that I've already done it recently.

i wouldn't pay anything, because i know how to do it all
myself

but as all my apps and stuff would be very time consuming,
i'd maybe pay someone £10

i wouldn't pay anything more than £5 for a standard user
(in example, someone who is NOT a muscian/computer geek,
just a general home user)

i'm asking because someone else (non-computer guy) asked me
how much i'd charge to format and reinstall everything on
his computer. i figure this will take at least 4 hours..

gouge him. say something like $15, people who are dumb with
computers will pay for that because they know there's no way
else it will get done. hell, a woman who lives down the
street paid me $50 just to plug in a new monitor! and i
didnt even ask, she just gave me the check. fastest cash i
ever made, tell ya that.

If you don't charge at least 50 dollars an hour for tech
support people will think they aren't getting their money's
worth.

You should charge at least $25 for 4 hours work, personally
I never accepted less than £8 an hour (about $16/hour I
beleive?).

I charge £30 an hour even for remote assistance and agree
totally with you. :D

couple of days ago, my buddy who enjoys doing this stuff,
formated and reinstalled windows on my comp...it literally
took him 5 minutes (not counting the installation and format
waiting)...with updates and everything...ofcourse win xp do
a lot of work on their own.

Network installs of OS images is the best source of cheap
income.
