another brilliant film i saw yesterday...claire denis is
really a wonderful director - i still need to see chocolate
(i bet it's great too).

it starts great with that shot of paris, the setting
sun...great photography
the movie is all about two strangers (a man and a woman),
who spend a passionate noght together. there's very little
dialogue...it's more about camera catching those emotional
moments...
(btw i ordered dvd which should be here on monday a while
ago, but it wasn't released untill now - and i saw the other
day that this film was playing in one of teathres here so
ofcourse i went hehe)

anyone else seen it?

maybe this will bring some attention to some of you :)

she was assistant director for jim jarmusch and wim wenders,
before she started doing her own films.

if you had thought the movie sucked, you would've been angry
that you had ordered it... phew, you're lucky!

:)

i meant the colors of the pictures you posted..

anyway the film i saw was

'Los Sin Nombres' directed by Jaume Balagueró
('the Nameless' in english)

it had some excellence in it but as a whole it was a bit
lame... the best things were in some of the images,
camerawork and cutting. the story didn't work very well...
or it just gets watered down very quickly. it could've been
much better..

yes, i thought that. all claire denis films are wonderful
when it comec to visuals (camra, photography, colors...)

but i like spanish films a lot so i tought i'd give this one
a try as well. i just checked on imdb, and it was rated
pretty poor, so i might skip this one...

i watch another spanish film today, los amantes del circulo polar . nacmat
recomended it and it was really nice. btw, part of it was
filmed in finland

yes i'm not really encouraging you to see it... was just
thinking of what i saw tonight. it had it's moments
anyway..

but one film i saw a week ago... i could recommend, can't be
sure if you'd like it though.. you seen it?

Lars von Trier's 'Dogville'..

the third von Trier movie i've seen (this+ dancer in the
dark, breaking the waves).. all have much in common but
still so very different... this one getting too much focus
in the media for it's 'theatrical' setting - almost no
props, everything takes place in a stage-like place... but
the story and idea is much more important.

yes, i wanted to go see it at festival in november but it
was sold out...but i just noticed earlier that it's playing
in a teathre so im probably going to go see it on tuesday -
i have it on divx but im thinking this one would look better
in a teathre

soundtrack/score , she really puts a lot into relation
between camera and music...

I bet it's great since you recommend it, but I had actually
not heard about it before.

have you seen any other claire denis films?

im a big fan since i saw her first film...just a hint, maybe
you would appreciate this one way more if you'd know her
previous films - just so you get some idea what she's
interested in, cuz this one is quite minimalistic...it's a
nice film for everyone but im pretty sure those people who
know her previous films appreciate this one much more - it
is just a simple story, nothing that would make you wonder,
it's just human feelings and beauty...

I have actually not seen any of her films.
I've seen some of "Der Himmel über Berlin", but that's it.
I like movies about feelings...

Thanks for the tip. I hope this movie will be played in
theatres in Sweden.

btw, maybe people who liked lost in translation would love
this one, it's very similar.

i haven't seen that one...actually im not that big wim
wenders fan, he's alright but nothing to exceptional :)
if i can get it, i'll check it tho!

yeah, it's much better to be seen in theatre, it's pretty
new, so im sure they'll play it somewhere, most likely some
art cinema...i don't know why they don't show this kind of
films in commercial theatres here, maybe people just aren't
up to it...maybe it's even better this way
