I like this band, I think they sound like what the smiths
would sound like if they weren't horrible crap.

i downloaded the CD "Elephant Shoe" i reccomend it for
anyone into slow indie rock.LAZY_TITLE

Smiths. Horrible crap. OK.

Anyway, I think Arab Strap are good. I don't remember.

Arab Strap sound like non-crap The Smiths, that's the
laziest, most misguided utter fuck-ulate I have ever had the
misfortune to have smeared on my eye-globes. Arab Strap
sound exactly like what two dypsos get up to when they find
a 4 track and a poorly tuned guitar.

I like the Smiths. This wasn't really clear, now that I read
it again.

i bought their first album when it came out in 96.
there are some moments of utter crap on it (ie. general plea
to a girlfriend) but some really good tracks too. saw them
live shortly afterwards. good set, especially as they played
several new tunes with electronic backing (really spaced out
housey beats with shimmery guitars & aidan's mumbled
diatribes).. they were intensely drunk throughout their set
(which is neither here nor there really, but at least they
managed not to let it spoil the set)..
bought a 12" shortly after with a nice a-side + some pretty
boring b-sides.
i couldnt sustain my interest in buying their albums beyond
that.. theres usually something else i would rather spend my
money on. theyve meant to have done some decent stuff over
the last 7years.. but i wouldnt know which records to get.
they strike me as one of those bands you could make a great
(double?) cd by taking the best from all their releases.
..?

yeah not bad.
things have all gone quiet on the magazine i was supposed to
be working on.. so im having to devise a plan b, plan c,
plan d + so on.
need to make change a soon, for all kinds of reasons..

aaanyway, other than that im doing ok. hows things at the
bomb? i havent been to nottingham for more than a few hours
in a fortnight or so - anything exciting happening?

well, apparently theres a new club opening, did you
know.........?

nothing much has been happening. laurent garnier is playing
at the bomb next month, have been toying with the idea of
getting mr hawtin down again too. expensive though.

i dont really know whats going on elsewhere in town, i'm
always too busy to have a look.

is the magazine still running? keep on that is.

keep on's still going, yes.. it was a sideproject that i was
supposed to be getting involved in. but its a case of if &
when.. and i can't be waiting around forever.

i know about the new club.. 'stealth' isn't it? met some of
the guy involved a couple of months ago. shouldnt be too
long before their opening should it? i know its competition
for you guys.. but i do think it would be good for
nottingham's nightlife to diversify its club scene a bit.
the bomb's been more or less the only one for waaaay too
long. media's history has been thoroughly patchy. the garvey
doesnt count as a club.. more of a crack-hole with a big
soundsystem (good fun though) + other than that, its a
couple of sticky, sweaty student dives (ocean/palais) +
countless chrome+pine poser bars..
not good.
i reckon a new proper music-oriented club will be healthy
competiton for the town centre.

you mentionned laurent garnier before.. should be good if i
can make it.

i quite like them. 'the read thread' excellent. their album
from last year wasn't bad either.
