NEW TOPIC BY DANA!!! w00t!

Have any of you seen this movie? It's about these Japanesse
kids who have to fight in this battle for their lives. They
are about the age of 13, they get dropped off in this island
run by their teacher who tells them who died, and whats
going to happen so on---

It wasnt sold in the US, my friend had bought it online.

The best bit was at the end when they shot the teacher and
he got up to answer his phone, that made me laugh .

yeh the music was nice, it was a good original idea but i
just don't like the way it was made, it seemed to be too
much of a kids movie for my liking, I probably would have
loved it 5 years ago.

it's available in the US now.

I really love this movie. on a purely asthetic level, it is
bloody and violent as hell. but i also really like the
mechanics between the characters. the way that the kids
become loyal to eachother or betray eachother because of
their situation.

one of my favorite scenes illustrates this. the scene where
all the girls are in the lighthouse, and one of them tries
to poison another girl. but the wrong girl eats the poison
and when she coughs up blood and dies, the stability of the
girls little group just totally breaks down, nobody can
trust anyone else any longer and they just start murdering
eachother.

i love this theme of loyalty, trust and betrayal, plus, i
love all the violence. and Beat Takeshi is hillarious in
it. yes. 5 stars.

the lighthouse bit? is that when they were all laughing and
joking and then withing the space of 2 mins they were all
dead!, I thought that scene was lacking something.... nudity
maybe :p

It's kinda like a futuristic re-telling of Lord of the
Flies. which is also pretty awsome. the old black and white
movie especially. and of course, the book.

lol

yeah they're all feeling safe, laughing and talking about
cute boys, and then one person has to ruin it by trying to
poison someone. great scene.

i also think it's funny how Beat Takeshi (the head master)
is just walking around all casual with that umbrella.
while kids are killing eachother near him.

There's some extended scenes and other goodies. BRII was
kinda like full metal jacket in the sense that it's almont 2

Kuriyama (Gogo - Kill Bill / One-who-stabs-lad-in-the-nads -
Battle Royale)?

yeah, gogo from Kill Bill is the girl from BR that goes
jogging and imagines her boyfriend riding the bike besider
her.

she even has the same hair cut. and the school girl
outfit.

i really like how Battle Royale has all these underlying
themes of trust, loyalty and betrayal. it is interesting to
see how most of the kids form little groups based on trust
and past friendships, but because of the extreme nature of
their situation, these alliances can not be taken for
granted. and in many cases, complacency can lead to a
bloody massacre.

great film.

I saw it last year, when a film club at one of my city's
majour cinema's decided to show it.
It's pretty good, I recommend it.
I mean, there do exist deeper films, but it's got an
interesting plot, well done and also treats the character in
a rather realistic manner. So yes, you should definitely see
it.

I just saw Battle Royale 2 last weekend, incidentally. Not
nearly as good as the first one though:P I don't recommend
it.

Yeah I heard about this movie. Looked far fetched but is
probably worth checking. I'll think I'll check for it at the
video store this weekend.
