actually, this is 1986 old, at least. i made my own cassette recording of "sth" backwards when i was a kid. as a matter of fact, religious zealots at "praise the lord" and "700 club" (right wing and very influential orthodox protestant organizations in the us) have long propagated rumors about a satanic conspiracy in the recording industry. in 1982, a right wing republican introduced a bill into the us congress requiring labels identifying any recording containing "backward-masked" messages (no, it didn't pass). incidentally, if you do enough research into recording and what happens to speech when it is reversed you'll find that coincidence is the only reasonable explanation for the "stairway to heaven" backwards "messages." |
