i dj now for some time, and i thought that a great addition
for my hardware would be a nice effect/ filter.

something like the fruity filter ad his cutoff effect would
be nice !

can you recommend me something ? how much does this cost ?

For DJing use (although it's not really good enough
quality/controllable enough for studio work) the Korg Kaoss
pad is good. Also, I've not used one, but the Pioneer EFX500
sounds good and has had favourable reviews (I think it's the
standalone FX bit that is built into the DJM600 mixer).

If you choose to go for the Kaoss Pad, I recommend you try
to find a KP1 second hand- far cheaper than the KP2 new.
There's little difference in the sounds/sampling ability (I
know the KP2 has more time, but it's still not enough for
anything more than a short loop) and the main difference is
the case. The KP1 is fragile in comparison, but so long as
you're either:
a) Careful
b) Only use it in the bedroom
or
c) take it to gigs in a flightcase (I use an old generic
flightcase I got for £3 second hand :)
it'll be fine.

through my pc and use filters form him real- time ??

Oh yes, I wouldn't bother with all the different rack mount
units you can get- like seperate filters, delay etc.- it
gets a pain in the arse lugging them around, even if they're
mounted in a rack flightcase and you can't easily re-route
the effects whilst you're playing, so you lose the
versatility of being able to rechain them.

I've never done that so I couldn't tell you, I've recorded
from my decks to pc and then FXed it afterwards, but never
in real time.

You can easily put your PC sound into your mixer and route
that through hardware FX though :)

Part of load of gear I bought: Pair of Vestax PDX2000,
PMC270A mixer (I love this mixer- I prefer it to more
expensive 4/5 channel mixers I've used- I hope one day to
get the PCV version...), a pair of stanton AL-500 carts, a
pair of Stanton AL-505 carts, all the leads, slipmatts etc.
and the KP1 for £800. It was all boxed, etc. and this was
over a year ago when the gear cost more new, so it was bit
of a bargain.

Looking on ebay KP1s are going for about £60- under half
the cost of a KP2!
I've used a slightly different model of this and
it seemed just as good, however, you have to consider if you
break a non replaceable part of the mixer, you've lost your
fx too and also if you ever sold the mixer you'd need to buy
another KP seperately.

For what, that mixer with kaoss pad built in?
That's £230 (not bad if you need a new mixer as well...)

US dollars?
Is that brand new?

You probably won't find it much cheaper than that.

No- the mixer is by numark... korg just worked with them to
do the fx bit. There is a version which is a korg branded
one, but numark helped do the mixer bits on that.

Whilst I've never seen or heard of a purely korg mixer, but
given their relationship with Vestax I imagine they leave
that up to them (Korg do a lot of the fx chips for vestax
things like the faderboard).

Not heard of the entrancer before.

Ah, I had read about the entrancer, but didn't know the
name... that's a VJing thing and it's definately not cheap!
Similair principle to the KP, but applies
fx/filters/transitions to video as opposed to sound from
what I can gather.

i think tha kaos pad 1 will be the best offer for me... but
will be hard to get that in poland !

Maybe try buying it from somewhere in europe that will
deliver to you? The KP1 is pretty light (the power supply is
tiny too) so P&P wouldn't be much.

Yes, the price of the Pioneer one is offputting, I've seen
Trixta use two 3 channel mixers & a 2 channel mixer (to
chain them, so six channels total) and a Pioneer FX on the
master out. I really didn't get why didn't just buy a
DJM600- much cheaper and more versatile routing of sounds
into the FX.

now that you told me about the numark-thingy in the kaos -
mixer, i start to think about that. maybe that's the best
choice ?

It depends- the mixer is about £100 more than just the KP
on that link I put (2 hours till the auction expires...)
they'll post to europe, so you should be okay.

It's worth noting that 4th upfader isn't a channel one, I
think it's an FX volume one, the mixer is three channel.
Personally, I like 3 channel- you can put two record decks,
two cd decks as well as pc/drum machine/groovebox into it
and just use the input/transform switches to select between
them.

You'd be able to sell your existing mixer too once you had
this.
