It's where it all started for me. They were there at the
same pioneering time as some of our favourite IDM artists,
but on a different front (Progressive House / Techno).

Of course now I'm a Warp-bitch, but every now and then I
venture back to the artists that got me involved in the the
whole electronica scene.

How do some of you feel about them? Am I crazy for still
loving these guys?

leftism is cool, same with all underworld albums, and you
cannot believe it but i ordered the orb's "adventures to the
ultraworld" one week ago and i am sure i will love it :)
fsol lifeforms is also an album i wanna check, especially
because i don't like dead cities, very much.

speaking of the multiple posting of catharsis: i think it
was not planned to do so, but the site was not loading and
he thought he should better click again to "post" and so he
did several times. phob could remove the other unneccesary
topics.

Orbital definitely. The others I don't listen to much. Never
really listened to Underworld to be honest.

FSOL = my favourite band by squillions of miles to the
extent that I'm in contact with the band.
Orbital = my favourite band before FSOL. First CD I ever
bought was The Box EP, when I was only 11.
Underworld = one of my favourite bands. When they're great,
I love them as much as Orbital and FSOL, but they can be
patchy, and some of their material I don't like.
Leftfield = meh. Never got into them, for some reason.
Orb = don't like.
Chemical Brothers = overrated as fuck.

fsol = yes
orbital = yes
leftfield = really liked the first lp, not so much the 2nd
the orb = some good tracks.. esp blue room
underworld = quite liked a couple of early tunes. but dont
think much of them at all.
chemical bros = eh?.. as my friend would say 'fucking
charlatans'

Yes indeed. I was 11 when I got into Orbital and Underworld
and 12 when I got into FSOL... back in 1996.

They're all good bands, nothing wrong with liking them. Most
people would consider FSOL as part of the early days of
"idm", there were only really a few really clubby tracks
like Papa New Guinea by them.

AND Papua New Guinea is the greatest dance track ever made.

the beauty of papua new guinea is that, although it was used
as a dancefloor track.. its just as much an ambient piece.

Nobody ever really classes Orbital as IDM, but after having
listened to their albums for the last 7 days or so, I'd say
they fit the genre bill.

Nobody likes the Orb eh?

Um, I reckon Underworld are one of the coolest dance acts
ever. Big, loud and british. And songs like Pearls Girl
and Rez are awesome.

Leftfield are rad, and if they and Chemical Brothers had a
fight, Leftfield would use their 'rhythmn' to perform some
'stealth' moves and...ew...sorry, I'm out of ideas. Yeah,
needless to say...Leftfield are rad. I mean, Chris
Cunningham did the Afrika Shox video!

Orbital are cool, too. People need to have more fun with
music these days, these guys have been having fun for ages.

My views, not the law.

the time these bands were getting big was a really good time
for british music in general. blur, oasis, pulp, suede just
as amazing as underworld, orbital et al but similarly
they've lost it now.

why hasn't anyone mentioned the prodigy yet?

Fluke and Orbital were my favorite before I started
seriously getting into IDM. Even after I was heavily into
Aphex Twin and Autechre, I was still listening to these
two.. mainly Fluke.
I didn't really get into Underworld until later.

ha, this is a coincedence...

just went into a local shop last night before going to see
"21 Grams", and picked up In Sides by Orbital, my first
Oribtal CD...

I have been thinking about buying this album for years, but
I never did, so it was just a planned musical whim, I
guess.

Haven't really listened to it yet. Is it good?

Yeah, well I remember hearing The Girl With The Sun In Her
Head years ago, it was one of those pieces of music that
just make you realise how much good music there is in the
world....

And i said to myself, "I'll definitely go buy this album
someday", but for some reason I never did. Now I have it!

Should be a good listen.... apparently Snivilisation is
really good too...
