aphex twin is the obvious answer, i have some other
suggestions. how about you?

As someone always willing to push boundries and test
themselves, i guess aphex or autechre would be the obvious
answer although there's definitely more than that... if
we're talking "experimental" as in inhabiting the fringes of
electronica, there's too many to name...

what about HOWIE B most know for producing björk. to me
he´s as fucking ground breaking as aphex twin & autechre
and i´m talking about his solo work. it´s not as much
electronic as it is groundbreaking.

howie b is one of my favourite musicians...but i wouldn't
call him experimental, he produces music in a more
conventional way i think.

takagi masakatsu comes on top of my mind when thinking of
experimental.

when i say experimental, i mean when someone has done
something no one has done before. so i that sense hes in
the same league if not over most of the artists you talk
about here!

if you are referring to howie b as more groundbreaking and
experimental than any of the artists one talks about here...
then i flat out disagree with you...

ecnadniarb: i realise what youre saying and i think that its
not you but me that makes the most experimental music,
atleast amongst the people on this site!!

No, I'm afraid Aphex Twin hasn't really invented anything,
sorry. I won't go into details because I'm too lazy, but
surely someone will do it for me.

Look my friend...if you think Aphex is one of the most
experimental then your opinion don't count for shit.

No offense like...just setting you straight :P

I wouldn't call aphex or autechre experimental, but they are
willing to try new sounds, unlike BoC :D

More experimental:
- Phthalocyanine (most of phthalo records in fact)
- Z'ev
- Ellen Fullman
- Oval
- David Grubbs
- Satanicpornocultshop

the feeling that you are just like the kids on some fucking
rock site! yeah White stripes are the saviours of rock n
roll. i dont talk about electronic music, i talk about music
as an artform which it is. to me at least. music is not a
trend its a way of life yknow.

ok, that might be so...and i agree with that. but afx has
each time brought particular style to perfection (except for
smojphace, but that was more of a joke maybe), and that
makes him so exceptional imo. i can't wait for his new
album, it's probably going to be some style that has already
been done before, but im quite sure it's going to sound
fresh and he'll again start a "new" thing and suddenly most
of people will start doing the same thing...

I don't disagree that he is an exceptional and excellent
artist...but that wasn't the original question. I also
reckon he will have tons of experimental stuff that will
never see the light of day. I don't think anyone can be
classed as more experimental than anyone else really :P

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-01-31 16:33 [#01056581]

i was actually replying to most "groundbreaking" artist
question, back there...
he's clearly not experimental...well perhaps he used to be,
10 years or so back, when he was doing that
blender+sandpaper things and such hehe, thise days he's more
of a musician than experimentalist.

offline ecnadniarb on 2004-01-31 16:34 [#01056582]
Points: 24805 Status: Lurker | Show recordbag

The blender and the sandpaper makes him a comedian not the
greatest experimental artist who has ever lived :P

then thats great.

guess, trying new things=experimental?? :)

I apologise for calling you a cock. I didn't really mean
it. It was a reflex reation to reading "i talk about music

as an artform which it is"

you're question about who i think the most experimental
electronic artists are was answered within the first few
posts in this thread... but now that i've thought about it
some more, i'd like to add a few:

Chris Watson
Zoviet France
... and that's really all the others i can think of right
now... but in all honesty, i'd assume that of all the
artists mentioned in this thread, not a single one was a
pioneer in the purest sense of the word... but that's just a
disclaimer for sticklers... cause i don't really give a shit
so long as it's different and i enjoy it
