almost all my friends love this film, but i cannot watch
it, i mean to say i don't like it, and i haven't seen it is
shit, so i tried to see, and it was boring so i stopped
after 30 minutes to watch. I cannot understand my friends in
that point

just imagine that whenever orcs are about the imperial march
is playing or when someone does something heroic (like when
sam shows up to save frodo from shelob) that the indiana
jones theme is playing...makes it all so much more
interesting

thats pathetic, you only watched 30 minutes and all of a
sudden you don't like Lord of the Rings? Maybe if you got
past the set up of the story you might get into it, but that
means you'd have to keep attention for more than 30 mins.
You might be interested to know that the first 30 mins is
completely different than the rest of the movie.

I liked the three films, the first one is still my favourite
(the less exagerated)

not bad movies at all... very mainstream of course

i mean, i don't intend to watch terminator 3 too, because
there was the whole advertisment shit, and you are full of
that after a time. Lord of the rings is fantasy, maybe i am
not keen on fantasy films? (?_?)

(the less exagerated)

actually there's nothing exeggarated about two towers and
return of the king, it's all in the books basically.

not all of it, some scenes were added for dramatic
purposes...

surfing legolas
legolas and elephant climbing

didnt read that in the books

let's not forget legolas being all cocky about it afterwards

Lets face it the books aren't perfect, especially character
wise. A few additions by Peter Jackson are welcome.

If LotR is the only fantasy you've read then your missing
out. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin is easily
better than LotR.

I prefered the third film actually. I would suggest you
watch the films, then make your judgement. Even if you don't
like it, the special effects are very good.

you needed 30 minutes? :)

i saw some promotional pictures, and well, they kind of
turned me off of it.

lotr is good, but overrated. It's visually the most
impressive film i've seen but, just like blowfield, i think
that i am not too keen on fantasy films.

offline blowfield on 2004-01-24 10:10 [#01046895]

yeah, i mean, of promotional pictures maybe the film is much
better than the prom. pics, so i gave the film a chance, in
order to build an opinion, and it sucked, indeed!

you can't build an opinion on a film after watching 30 mins,
especially when that 30 minutes are completely different
than the other 3 hours of the film.

maybe its like you said, you just don't like fantasy?

offline blowfield on 2004-01-24 10:17 [#01046902]

so you give me the advice to skip the first 30 minutes in
order to enjoy the rest of the film without knowing the
essential information of the first 30 minutes boredom?

if you don't like fantasy you won't like the film, but
anyway why not watch the whole film first before coming to
conclusions.

bc i don't feel like watching after the boring 30 minutes at
the beginning!!! You won't believe it but i also tried to
read the book. first 200 pages then i stopped. it was
uninteresting

that's not what I would call exaggerating, that's more of an
entertainment factor. Exeggerating would be if they blow
anything out of proportion according to the original
material. That is not the case with TTT and ROTK.

Im quite with you here...see I really enjoyed the books,
(not as much as some lovecraft's stuff tho) but I cant
understand how Peter Jackson, this great film maker did it
like that... I mean it could have been so much sweeter to
have it done with some "old" roots feelings, I mean with a
real soul.... It looks all a little too comercialized for my
tastes...didnt really like the special effects in the 2
movies Ive seen (didnt see return of the king) especially in
the second one, I didnt like the Ents, and some of the
creatures didnt fit at all, the worst is the gollum IMO...
and worst thing will be his next movie in preparation : King
Kong
the world is going so so so so so insane...
*watches bad taste and cries"

wow, well i must say thats the first time i've ever heard
someone say that.

yeah I know but I dont care its so true, its so much look
like a digital shit running on the screen.... but i must say
the hobbits and elfians were kick ass the dwarf too... just
the digital stuff bothered me but it always do...anyway its
not a good film to me... dont even talk about trilogy
here...

One thing I hate about these movies. They aren't cozy.
That's what I like about fantasy stuff. They left out
Bombadil which was an invitation for cozy. The hobbuit hole
was hardly in it. They could have really stretched that
out.
The pub scene in the first was too short and not that
cozy...Fantasy cozy, not fantasy fight simulations.

if you want cozy I suggest you give Teletubbies a try,
otherwise realize that there never was annything cozy about
Lord of the Rings save for the first chapters taking place
in hobbiton which serve as a necessary introduction and
contrast to the things to come. From the moment those black
riders show up it's straight hell and hardship for the
fellowship.

could do kickass animatronics nowaday im sure :)

no I think I know what you mean bogala... with Tolkien
books, its like you know each character very well in a sort
of intmate cozy way... sort of.... we could compare it to
the sensations the movie "dark crystal" gives, its far away
from lord of the rings...

yeah, even the dark riders. When I read the book I'm the
hobbit looking up. I don't know. Yeah, the hobbit was my
favorite. Maybe they'll do a good cozy job on that one. The
lotr's films I think were done from a warrior percpective.
There are people who camp out for weeks in the woods and
dress up in chainmail and shit. Practice fighting
techniques. These films were for those people I think.
