poll: computer fuck-ups

since there seems to be quite often threads like "help!! my
computer is fucked!!"... just out of curiosity, a little
poll (i hope it won't bring me bad luck):

· how often does your computer simply crashes (so
you have to restart it)?
· how often does your computer have serious problems
/ how often do you have to reformat it?
· how anxious would you say you are about computer
problems, on a scale from 0-10?

for me:

· maybe two times a week... not too often now
· two or three times a year approximately
· very anxious... 9

1. maybe once ever
2. "serious?" hardly ever
3. 1

the only real problems happen when I overload my music
program... to much synths and samplers playing at once.
thats about it.

· how often does your computer simply crashes (so you
have to restart it)?

Maybe once a month, or less.

· how often does your computer have serious problems
/ how often do you have to reformat it?

Generally only when I upgrade operating systems or get a new
computer.

· how anxious would you say you are about computer
problems, on a scale from 0-10?

Zero. I know what I'm doing and I have offsite backups.

Format once a month!? Crap! I'd go insane. Do you get a lot
of spyware and viruses and things? What OS, Browser, and
antivirus are you running? How many icons are in your tray?

Well, it used to screw up like once a day,
it woud go to a screen that said something like "HARDWARE
FAILURE" and I would have to reset it. That usually happened
most often while watching porn downloaded from Kazaa.*

*Note, I no longer use kazaa, or download porn, and that I'm
using Windows XP Professional.

Never crashes on me.
I reinstall Windows with a format, about 3 times a year, or
when I think it needs it.

As to anxious about problems, I just don't have the time to
be dealing with silly problems with the computer, so I'd
rather not worry about little niggles, I'd just blank the
damn thing and reinstall it all. No point searching for a
needle in a haystack (so the saying goes)....when I reformat
and reinstall will fix it.

I'm quite happy that my PC is reliable.

Doesn't take long to re-install once you've backed up (and
that can take minutes if you keep your personal files in an
orderly manner). I'm going to write a script to reinstall
major software automatically so that I needn't even type
shit in while waiting...

before I installed xp I had no problems, now that I have,
I've had nonstop maliware, adware, viruses, trojan and other
fuckups, my computer crashes every few hours, I've
reformatted about 5 times in the last month, I'm anxious of
porblems probably 8 out of 10

I want windows 2k again :(
(but I can't get my video card working under it)

my computer (amd athalon 750mhz) crashes about 1 time for
every 2 hrs of serious music production use.

i compensate by constantly hitting ctrl+S to save.

this makes me vary anxious.

the newest problem i've been having is, i'll be working and
my computer will spontaneously restart. no warning. just
*click* restart.

it sucks. but i just try to save often. untill i can buy a
new setup.

and yes i am running windows xp.....

just a matter of keeping backups that u can roll back
to...and not accepting every script that the porn sites want
you to run on your system

i do remember the windows 98 days....crashing every 60
minutes

i am pretty happy with win xp i gotta say...just have to get
used to it

yeah, i'm running win2kpro myself and so far no probs, but i
think that's also due to the fact that i'm not a dumbass who
accepts all those scripts and programs the sites offer.
