One of the best albums to come out so far this year... if
people are looking for realy interesting ambient type
stuff... they should check it out... probably one of his
more accessible releases, particularly if you aren't so much
into the noise end of things...

i bought it from my record -store owner hook-up

actually, i bought it on new years eve. even though the
release date wasn't till the first week of january (i don't
know how that works)

it shouldn't be too hard to find

im surprised it wasnt in boomkat's newsletter. and i can't
find it on amazon.
i'll go check in the record store here, they usually get
jeck's releases - do you know what label was this released
on?

Touch... with beautiful Jan Wozencroft designed packaging...
and i know you'll like it... the trick is getting other to
listen...
you should also try to find this new compilation on touch
called "Spire: Organ Works Past, Present & Future"
it's got the entire touch roster, and more... it looks like
it would be so nice... i'm trying to track it down

thanks. i'll see if i can find that spire...

i had some troubles finding it as i was searching for seven
instead 7, but i read some reviews and im getting it. btw,
that touch online shop is reaoly the weirdest thing i ever
saw - you can't scroll down so you can only get releases
from letter a to o...weird, or im not to good with it :)

honestly though... at least you could consider ordering from
it... way too much of the music i like comes from europe...
i need to live there... i hate not being able to grab stuff
from this store or that store because of the shipping...

that's the trouble, i can order releases which start with
letter a to releases which start with letter o. since philip
jeck starts with p i can't get it obviously, not to mention
that search function doesn't work :).

as far as ordering, since we're not in european union just
yet i have to pay additional tax (something like 30% now) so
it isn't that cheap, but we're getting into union in may
this year and i'll get stuff much cheaper then.

anyway, here's a link to that touch online shop - can you
check it out and see if you can scroll down to jeck please?

link

this is excellent album. i just heard it for the first time
and listening second time around :)

it's like a mixture of susumu yokota sounds with tim
hecker's stuff, really beautiful melodies, and the sounds he
used are brilliant, he combines sounds much like yokota
actually...
anyone who's up for some beautiful melodic beatless music
should listen to this record!

what an amazing album...

didnt he release another album in 2003 too(close to the
end)? i dont even have stoke from 2002 or his earliert
releases let alone these. people need to slow down and let
me have a good amount of time to get these albums!

you should definitely hear stoke, it's one of his best, for
sure...

the other release he put out last year was Host... and it
turned out to be unauthorized, so it is now out of print...

i'd say wait with "stoke" if you haven't heard his other
releases, it's pretty hard to get into. i would also
recommed you to start with 7 or vinyl coda IV maybe. if you
can get "host" anywhere, get that as well, it's brilliant.

really? i find Host is not nearly as good as Stoke... the
back half is a little weak, but tracks like Pax, and Vienna
Faults are awesome, imo

stoke is excellent, but i wouldn't recommend it to someone
who's getting into jeck as a first record, well at least not
if they find noisy record difficult to listen to. vienna
faults is excellent, but my favourite on stoke is "open".

i have been listening to 7 quite a lot since yesterday and
im loving it. i was quite surprised to those ambient tunes,
a bit unlike his previous more noisy ambient. especially
"wipe" is one of the best ambient pieces i've ever heard.

btw, do you know "klick" by thomas brinkmann?

offline DeadEight from vancouver (Canada) on 2004-01-18 15:13 [#01039588]
Points: 5437 Status: Regular

i've had it sitting on my computer for over a year, but
haven't given it more than a half-listen... i did hear
mokira.. and wasn't to crazy about that... but Brinkmann
definitely deserves to be revisited... i read somewhere that
he makes alot of his sounds just by taking a knife and
cutting his own grooves into blank records, or something...

offline tolstoyed from the ocean on 2004-01-18 15:21 [#01039594]
Points: 50073 Status: Moderator

here's what the sleeve of "klick" says:" 10 tracks made with
two decks, an isolator, a mixer and some with a tc
multieffect. about 15 endless grooves, cut with a knife in
the last groove of vinyl records, some voices from records
as well, and feedbacks are the sound sources. the loops are
cut between 1978 and 2000 like the one on suppose 08 (feran
loop)."

actually this is the only album i have by brinkmann, but im
going to look into his other stuff as well.

i just gave Brinkmann's Klick a listen... and it was pretty
nice... i was worried it'd be too minimal, but i didn't find
that at all... i'll definitely have to give it another
listen in the next little while...

did anyone beside me and deadeight here, actually check
"7"??

cuz it's very nice and you can all be sorry to miss out such
a nice release!

i think one other person did... or at least one other person
mentioned it... i'm sure there are a few people who would...

it's beyond my understanding why he isn't appreciated on
this mb. isn't he a part of idm scene as well? perhaps it's
true that most people on this mb are mainly focused on
warp...
weird.
