I LOVE Oval. My favourite is def Ovalprocess. The way it
make these noisy chrutchy sounds the most beautiful
melodies. Very good!

You should listen to Fennesz; Hotel Para.lel. It's not very
similar, but sort of the same experience, when you first
hear strange sounds and the next second you realise they
make a fantastic melody.

the only oval i like is wohnton, 94 diskont, and
systemisch.

i think dok is pretty cool too. but in my opinion when frank
metzger and sebastian oschatz got kicked out by markus popp,
oval went downhill fast.

markus is still a shot better than most when it comes the
sorta stuff he makes. but ive lost interest, especially
nobukazu takemura came out with scope.

but even with stuff like ovalcommers/process, its an
interesting listen in any case. definitely worth checking
out.

Track 4 of Ovalprocess is one of my favourite pieces of
electronic music.

oval is the shit... ovalprocess is nice, but i think i
prefer 94 Diskont... so beautiful...

his latest work was pretty interestin' to: glitchifying the
vocals of Eriko Toyoda, under the moniker "So" (the album is
also called "So")... and you might also want to check out
the work he does with Jan St. Werner (Mouse on Mars,
Lithops) under the name Microstoria...

Popp is a true pioneer

oval isnt really THAT innovative, someone else did it to
vinyl albums in the 70s, what they did to cds. but cds are
quite differnet and they had a different process, so they
are still up there. the 70s guy (forgot his name, will
remember it later at a completely inappropriate time) didnt
sound good, but oval did. oval's wohnton album is nearly a
pop album (vocals and all that), so i commend oval for doing
something so odd and making it listenable. which is why i
they are great.

well, were. markus popp can go away for all i care

well, first of all, when systemisch was made (saw2 tracks),
oval consisted of 3 people until markus became a cock.

and yeah, they did fuck about with data from saw2. but it
wasnt like, fast fowarding something and just recording it.
of course if you can prove me otherwise through some various
sources, then so be it.

Two misperceptions about Popp are that he makes ambient
music and all his work sounds the same. In the watershed
year 1994, the ambient label almost applied, due in part to
Oval's composition process at the time. That year, Popp,
along with then-collaborators Sebastian Oschatz and Frank
Metzger, decided to take copies of Aphex Twin's Selected
Ambient Works Volume II, apply a magic marker to the CD
surface, and record and manipulate the ensuing tracking
errors.
...

Surpised noone has mentioned the Aphex SAWII
connection...(as well as Ovals remixes of SPQR etc...)...

i love Oval stuff - well i only have 2 copied albums with
no titles and of course, his remix of "Big Loada" which
ranks up there with "Confield" and BoC for electro-emotional
soundscapery.

oval - well-rounded glitch!

jand, saw2 was mentioned twice. once by me and by
roygbivcore, just to avoid confusion.

im not a fan of popps later work after dok, but its still
far better than most trying to do similar things.
