My most straight forward track

I began writing this in Rome, and I worked on it, on the
plane back to Boston, and then some more in Boston... so it
kind of is like the theme song to my leaving rome.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy. (Beats and Melodies galore).

Rome

Hey man that's damn good. Funny it really reminds of
traveling in a way. Nice production.

Check out the Amon in Boston Topic!

to make...

i agree with the funkmaster here. but if you want to split
hairs, the bass is a little too low in the mix for my taste.
i would have made it more prominent.

Im just looking for ways to improve. you lose objectivity
after awhile, and need someone to say, dude, your ears
fucked, the bass is too low. :-D

Excellent track. Love the floating chilled mood and the
arrangement.

Great contrasting textures - sometimes your stuff sounds too
"clean" to me. What did you use for drums?

oh, and the drums were put together from random drum hit
samples ive collected. some electronic, some acoustic. Lots
of processing.

offline fleetmouse from Horny for Truth on 2004-01-15 20:27 [#01035388]

Yeah, that seems to be the way to get interesting percussion
- work with processed samples. I dunno, every time I use
typical drum plugin software it bores me to tears. It's like
writing "lines" as punishment.

Clean can be nice, but this track stands out because the
drums are a little dirty.

Well.

Great production.

But. The beat is kind of ungroovy, yes, and the melodies do
nothing for me. Which is sad.

I still think your best track is that one you did for Nigel.
Yes.

All right.

I really enjoyed this one. Possibly your best yet, because
this is one I plan on keeping.

Everything sounds great, but its a bit too quiet. Try
raising the mids some more, you can definately make that
snare louder. And the bassline just need to be raised by a
hair, dont overdo it.

straight away it made me think of metamatics or goon or
something... i like the scale your using, slightly oriental
in parts...

i can tell by listening that its a very good song, but
unfortunaly it doesnt spark any kind of emotion within me,
but thats a personal thing.

my only other criticism would be that its beats are a little
straightforward, but judging by the topic title im sure your
aware of that :)

props in production and composition tho, its very good.

Needs more bass, drums need to be snappier.

Pads are nice, flows well, blows the drum sound out of the
water... need to mesh the drums with the pads a lot more,
mastering problem, up the level of the drums a bit maybe.
The bass also gets overwhelmed, but comes in with a nice
smooth groove, would like to hear it more pronounced.

There isn't much progression in the drums which gives it a
kind of repetitive feel, some of the ambient changes are
really good though, 2:03 for example, the sudden ones carry
the piece nicely.

Layered pads work, nice mesh there, what plugin are you
using for the pads? Atmosphere?

That break at the end would have been really cool if you
aluded to it earlier in the piece, the delayed pad noise is
really nice, maybe just the bass line and that for just a
bar or two?

Nice stuff, master it up a bit and throw it up here again,
bet you'll get more comments

zeus,

it's great. my only suggestion is that the volume is too
fucking low.
and i think you gotta get a layer of some ambient fem vox in
there. i guess i always suggest adding vocals to your stuff
though..but its fucking great.

so in conclusion.
louder, and find some honey to lay a touch of sweet female
vox.
