seeing aphex twin these days just isn't special as it used
to be.

10 years ago, it's a legitimate newsflash. now it's just a
wankfest.

no wonder that man smiles, eh?

just a wee update .. aphex and vibert at bdo was pretty
good. tho there was a bit of a slow start -- mucking around
like - plenty of 303 noodling in the first 45 minutes with
some pretty fat hip hop beats ... last 30 minutes tho were
sublime : think dj scud and hellfish.. vibert was rolling
ciggs and taking pictures of the audience whilst rdj did his
thing.

anyway ..b etter go catch the galatos gig ..

oh .. they played analogue bubblebath 1, and the Normal
(Helston Flora Remix)!!! ... hope to get some pics of this
galatos gig .. no promises no regrets etc.

just returned from galatos
the gig has been cancelled
the bastard BDO promotors wont allow him to play seperate
gigs..

boohoo

didnt go to BDO..couldnt stand the thought of being in the
same ball park as METALLICA and it's knuckle dragging
hordes...

for those who bought the tix in advance..the people at the
door said refunds would be made...

actually our source at Real Groovy had warned us well in
advance (last week to be precise) that RDJ will not be able
to play a solo gig because of contractual obligations but we
still hoped beyond hope...

just back from drowning my sorrows ... boo hoo :'(

yeah, gary steel told me that they were kicking up a fuss,
but the refund thing made me think it wouldn't hurt to get a
few tickets. and then with the beautnews email i though
everything was sorted out. shit .. such a damn shame. though
i think if they used a pseudonymn all this could have been
avoided .. ah well .. too late for that now.

i did catch the 1 1/2 aphex/vibert gig at the bdo so that's
something .. too many people at the bdo for my liking tho ..
crazyness. But yeah ... last half hour of the vibert/afx gig
was immense.

Aphex at the big day out was a let down for me, i missed the
last 30 minutes because i walked out.
the flaming lips cheered me up though.

i suck at reviews, and unfortunately didn't get any pics.
but um yeah ..

vibert had his ibook, triggered samples/loops from his
keyboard ... its pretty hard knowing who was doing what, but
the start sounded pretty vibert-ish. actually the music
reminded me a lot of the little lv-rdj soundclip i once had
a listen to from some semi-recent vibert interview (no idea
where that file is now). rdj seemed to hunch over (a 303?)
an awful lot at the start -- ie. wasn't really using his
laptop.

start seemed a bit weak .. some nice basslines and things,
but it was too sparse - or very linear is probably a better
way to put it. the second half hour got a bit better, but it
was still a bit touch and go - some breaks were thrown in
every now and then - um .. all pretty old school, plenty of
303, 808 and a bit of 909 thrown in.

but the last 30 (though was probably closer to 20 mins) when
rdj took the helm, things heated up. Tonns of gabba,
hardcore breakcore corecore etc. - and plenty of fuckin
around by the main man. I've only got Constant Mutations,
but i'm sure i recognised some hellfish, quite possibly some
scud or soundmurderer also ... and some lush as breaks etc.

pretty much repeating what i've said

i found the rdj-lfv.mp3 soundclip, will try and upload it
somewhere .. actually sounded very much like that ...

think "clip I" and a bit more bass.
