i would say the royal tenenbaums, but too many tracks from
the movie are missing from the soundtrack.

rushmore is good, though.

and donnie darko.

i like and respect forbidden planet, but i can't say i often
feel like spinning it.

koyaanisqatsi has its moments.

2001: a space odyssey

the hunger, but only for the classical music.

you're right about american beauty -- i've been listening to
it all night.

soundtrack wise, the things i like that haven't been
mentioned are Lost Highway (save for the weak smashing
pumpkins/rammstein moments), The Crow (sure, there is a lot
of crap on there, but the cure, machines of loving grace,
nin, and thrill kill kult all have their shining moments.
in fact, tkk has the only song of theirs that i can even
stomach), and of course, Strange Days (featuring the lovely
Juliette Lewis's cover of PJ Harvey's Hardly Wait. I like
it even better than PJ's own demo.).

the pi soundtrack's alright.. works better with the film
than as an album to put on though.. seems to happen with a
lot of sts i reckon.
and as plaidzebra highlighted.. too often a decent track
from the film doesnt appear on the album.

sophia coppola's "lost in translation" with bill murray's
supposed to have a good st.

yes, the score to american beauty is unbelievably great, i
forgot about it because of the number of awful classic rock
tracks on the soundtrack.

solaris comes to mind also, but i haven't heard the actual
cd, just the score as it appeared in the film.

oh, i love it -- don't even think that it was just the
novelty of one of my favorite actresses covering my favorite
musician.

the demo is great, not lacking at all, but i really think
that lewis's cover had something cool about it. of course,
maybe this is because the production made the song sound
more 'to bring you my love' era....which is my favorite
record of pj's...well maybe not my favorite...but that's a
story for another day.

though i could see why you'd think it's terrible. julia's
voice is nowhere nearly as..umm.....gripping (?) as
pj's....but i think it's a fine performance.

Although it's not a movie soundtrack, Akira Yamaoka's
''Silent Hill'' work has the same kind of effect on me. Just
listening to it puts me in a different place.

Some of Martinez' ''Solaris'' soundtrack is pretty amazing
and on the same wavelength as the 'Hill.
