Todd Terry - Let it ride

I really like this track.
What are your thoughts on it?

It's from the "Resolutions"-album,
kinda jungle/dnb but very uplifting
with very nice melodies.
The track did good in the dancecharts when it came in 1999.

I wish there was more commercial dancemusic this good.

I'm not sure it can be called "commercial", but it did good
in the charts anyway.

I like some early Todd Terry stuff very funky. Like a lot of
old house from back in the day.

Ah but it wasn't commercial dance music...and Grooverider
was singing Todd Terrys praises over that album for months,
he was dropping tunes from it almost every set he did.

who is grooverider?

As I later posted (but that was before you replied) I wasn't
sure it was commercial - but if it's just a good dnb/jungle
album, then it's even more nice it did good in the charts.
I'd much rather have this kinda music playing on mainstream
clubs than bad trance. But I feel "mainstream" dance used to
be much better in general anyway. Mainstream today just
sucks mostly.

grooveraider is called :guru" of drum'n'bass, though now his
music is one piece of shit - but yeah, he started all the
dnb noise ( after Goldie )

Actually you are wrong.

Grooveriders music is mostly him telling Optical what he
likes the sound of...he loves jazz so having Optical doing
the tracks might not have been a good idea.

And Grooverider was DJing d'n'b way before Goldie got
involved. Grooverider was an acidhouse DJ who went straight
into d'n'b. Goldie got into Jungle after Reinforced Records
had well been established, releasing the classic Terminator
under the name Rufige Cru.

I've got a cassette of unreleased Goldie stuff called the
Prototype Years which was given away free with musik
magazine in the UK back in 96 or something.

The first track is an ambient drum and bass track with birds
tweeting...it is amazing :D

It's will all my other tapes in storage at the moment
though. When I finally get the chance to go through
everything I will copy it onto the computer for you. I
still have another promise to keep with tapes and a board
member :P

Goldie got into dnb after hearing Fabio + Grooverider at
rage. I went to rage twice in 1991 & 1992 only to hear
Grooverider djing 2 Unlimited's Get Ready For This.

There are different stories about how he actually got into
drum and bass, but on a BBC documentry Goldie actually said
he got into drum and bass completely by accident...he had
just got back from living in Miami and was walking down a
road in London when he heard this wierd breakbeat sound
coming out of a doorway. He walked in and it was Dego and
Mark Mac (founders of Reinforced) and that is how he got
into it.

He later met Grooverider when he was in a club and Groove
dropped on of his tunes in the set. They had an interview
with Grooverider where he was saying this wierd looking
fella with gold teeth was banging on the DJ booth screaming
"you're playing my tune man".
