Starting Reign All Year, review soon... any track in
particular you want critiqued?

I have a thread up, down a ways now if you want to check out
the Ochre remix I finished yesterday

I like a lot of things going on in that track... some cool
effects and everything meshes pretty well. Sounds like you
were playing around with a lot of loops there, some parts,
the beginning notably, sound really smooth, great ear for
the effects.

But oh good lord is it FULL of sound. Lots of pad sounds
just overwhelms me... no break, I mean the whole thing is
just in your face, no swells of energy, no break at all.
There's no change of melody really, just adding over the top
or slight changes...

Don't know if that's a bad thing, I personally like more
changes, but hey... spun into a mix, this would be a very
nice 2 minutes into an ambient transition

Open the heart:

Alright, I'm hearing some similarities in the mastering
which might be your biggest problem... some advice in a bit
that might help...

Loops flow well together, although wondered what the heck
happened at the end, I'm a fan of natural sounds. Good beat,
chopped up well, sounds really crisp, the pitch shifts and
vocal sample keep me interested, flute, all that... sort of
ambient, not much of a melody, but it works nicely.

The high frequencies I think are up a tad too high, that
might be what my ears are telling me... they were definitly
too high on Reign All Year. Try using an equalizer and
dropping out certain parts on both and if you can get your
hands on the Wave plugins the linear multiband would work
very well on both of these to help level after the
equalizer.

See what adds energy, what kills it, how much is too much,
all the fun stuff you figure out when playing around with
something too much.

It's either that or it's just overcompressed, easy to do
when working with a lot of different samples. Maybe I'm
wrong, but there's SOMETHING weird about the mastering
that's making me twitch.

But that's just the detail part, overall really good tracks!

No, not my type of stuff. The sounds you have used are nice
and everything but it wouldn't be right to comment further
because it really isn't a style of music that I like. :D

ecnadniarb: hehe nice, what kind of music is it???

I dont know what kind of music I make, it does not fit in
hip hop, electronic/idm, etc etc '

what would u define it as?

I would actually class it as a hybrid between soft rock and
electronic. :P Structurally is sounds very much like a soft
rock track but with electronic instrumentation. If I had to
take a guess at your musical influences I would say you have
been, or are still, into rock music :D

I never liked rock. Never owned a rock record.

Was that a sarcastic comment? ;)
