...and they're gonna start making a non-free version!!

"America Online is expected to release an upgrade for
its free Winamp multimedia software [read: Winamp5] as early
as Tuesday, with a fee-based "pro" version that does MP3
encoding to follow, according to sources familiar with the
plans."

i sense the beginning of the end for the dopest audio player this side of
hades

yeah, that guy who started winamp got fired or quit or
something right after they released 3.0, i think. and that
was right after aol took over. that's why i haven't
downloaded winamp since 2.x!

the media player that comes with xp is so much better than
any external programs anyway.

i feel bad supporting aol, but i gotta say that winamp 5 is
the best winamp so far in my opinion. all the features of 3
plus more, minus the laggyness and crashing and screwed up
playlist shit and all that. i feel so dirty....

2.78-2.80 = still the best versions.

AOL has been behind Winamp from the start, no?

I'm using 5.0 now, it's slick. I'm still keeping 2.91 around
though.

I've also been checking out foobar 2000, a very cool mp3
player. Extremely light on system resources, supposed to
handle large playlists well. Plays just about every file
format, lots of tweaks for power users, mostly open source
with BSD license.

Um... 5.0 kicks MAJOR ASS

Slick as 2.0 (which is all I would use before) with the
features of 3.0, I LOVE this release, I don't care who owns
it

I just use media jukebox. Best audio player I've every
used. Plus is uses winamp 2.x plugins and I think
visualizations. Go with version 8 though, 9 sucks and I
think the site still offers downloads of 8.

foobar is cool, it uses a 64 bit floating point decoder, in
normal language it means that the music comes out much
better then wmp or winamp

winamp isn't going to die, the pro version is because
nullsoft can live and they cab invest in a better music
player. the extra fucntions you will gain are cd burning and
faster ripping. be honest, you don't want winamp to do that
unless you like to donate some money to nullsoft.

Winamp 5

and the newest in de 2.x series is 2.95.

i am using winamp 5 right now and i am very satisfied,
hardly any difference with the 2.x serie, the most noticable
difference is the skin function from winamp 3.x
