I don't think so.. "there is a light that never goes out" is so great.. of course I haven't heard too much of their other stuff, that song alone makes them a good band.

I'm so still in love with the M....& even after all years I can recite verbatim everything they ever released...
heh!! I used to take the day off work everytime they released a new single...which I'd play to death...
Still got all my original 12" vinyls; Art with a capital ART!!!!....
(OK OK I won't bore you anymore tales of my younger life...;)
But I will add that I hope some bands around today inspire so much love, during those difficult years...I guess perhaps Radiohead, Belle & Sebastian....anyone think of some more???..

Far as I'm concerned, only The Zombies and The Beatles have made better straight forward pop than The Smiths. The Queen is Dead is nigh unbeatable.
